In Hinduism, the day of Ekadashi holds a primary position for the worship of Lord Vishnu. The Yogini Ekadashi, observed during the month of Ashadha, is particularly revered for its spiritual significance. This year, the observance falls under a highly auspicious planetary alignment. According to traditional beliefs, performing meticulous rituals for Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi on this day secures their blessings, leading to long-term prosperity, happiness, and wealth.
Timing and Astronomical Significance
Ujjain-based astrologer Anand Bhardwaj suggests that lighting lamps in specific locations on Yogini Ekadashi can trigger positive changes, clearing obstacles in pending work and unlocking new opportunities for success. Based on the Vedic Panchang, the Ashadha Krishna Ekadashi tithi begins on July 09 at approximately 07:46 PM and concludes on July 10 at approximately 04:52 PM. Following the Udayatithi, the Yogini Ekadashi fast will be observed on Friday, July 10.
The Spiritual Weight of the Fast
Scriptures highlight Yogini Ekadashi as one of the most powerful observances. Special importance is given to the combined worship of Shri Hari and Mother Lakshmi on this day. It is widely believed that keeping this fast and offering prayers provides the same spiritual merit as feeding 88,000 Brahmins. The ritual is credited with liberating devotees from all past sins and poverty, fulfilling earnest desires, and inviting happiness into their lives.
Four Auspicious Places to Light Lamps
To maximize the spiritual benefits of Yogini Ekadashi, lighting lamps in these specific locations is recommended during the evening:
- Before Lord Vishnu: Light a ghee lamp in front of Lord Vishnu. This is believed to restart stalled tasks and bring prosperity and good fortune into the household.
- Near the Tulsi Plant: Lighting a ghee or sesame oil lamp near the Tulsi plant purifies the home environment and ensures that positive energy remains constant. This is considered a potent symbol of wealth growth.
- At the Main Entrance: Place a lamp at the main door of the house on the night of Yogini Ekadashi. This light acts as a protective shield, preventing negative energy from entering and ensuring peace and auspiciousness.
- Beneath the Peepal Tree: According to astrological and religious traditions, lighting a lamp under a Peepal tree on this day is highly beneficial. It is believed to invoke the blessings of ancestors and systematically resolve lingering life problems.
