In Bihar's Saharsa district, a grocery shop owner's family has shown that becoming a doctor doesn't require an expensive coaching package, just hard work and discipline. Three siblings from this modest household have cracked NEET, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, together, and all three are now set to become doctors. What makes their story stand out is that they achieved this without ever stepping into a coaching hub like Kota or Delhi, preparing instead in their own hometown, an example that has struck a chord with lakhs of students preparing with limited resources.
How the three siblings scored
The family lives in Tulsiyahi village in Saharsa. The eldest son, Rajneesh Kumar, scored 633 marks in NEET. His sister, Sakshi Kumari, secured 601 marks, while the youngest, Prahlad Kumar, scored 565 marks. All three prepared while based in Saharsa itself, and their achievement has become the talk of the district, offering inspiration to thousands of NEET aspirants across the country, particularly those who cannot afford coaching fees in bigger cities.
Their father runs a small grocery store
Rajneesh and Prahlad completed their schooling under the Central Board of Secondary Education, while Sakshi studied under the Bihar School Examination Board. Despite the different academic backgrounds, all three siblings shared the same dream of becoming doctors. Their father, Rohit Anand, runs a small grocery shop that supports the entire family. Given the family's limited financial resources, sending the children to coaching hubs such as Kota or Delhi was simply not an option, which left the siblings with only one path forward, working hard while staying in their own city.
Choosing Saharsa over Kota and Delhi
Rohit Anand and his wife, Poonam Devi, were upfront with their children, telling them plainly that the family could not afford to send them outside the district for coaching. At the same time, they assured the siblings that they would do everything within their means to support their education. Following this conversation, the three siblings enrolled at a local coaching institute in Saharsa and chose to prepare in their hometown rather than move to Kota or Delhi. They credit their success to disciplined study routines, effective time management and sustained hard work. The siblings regularly sat together to work through difficult topics and clear each other's doubts, a practice that strengthened their understanding of the subjects and kept them motivated through the long, exhausting preparation period, ensuring none of them lost heart along the way.
Parents were the biggest source of strength
The siblings say the greatest credit for their success goes to their parents. During the most stressful phases of preparation, their parents kept encouraging them and repeatedly reminded them that honest effort is never wasted. That unwavering support and trust, the siblings say, became the family's biggest strength through the entire journey, and it is what kept financial hardship from standing in the way of their dreams.
NEET UG 2026 results
The NEET UG 2026 result was declared on July 16, with more than 11 lakh candidates qualifying for counselling. The three siblings from Saharsa are among those who cleared the exam. The journey of Rajneesh, Sakshi and Prahlad shows that with family support and sustained effort, even a family running a small grocery shop with limited resources can see all three of its children through to a medical seat.
