Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu saw her campaign come to an end at the Arctic Open Super 500 tournament in Vantaa, Finland. In a hard-fought quarterfinal match, the sixth-seeded Indian shuttler was defeated by top-seeded Ratchanok Intanon of Indonesia. Playing in the USD 500,000 prize money tournament, Sindhu displayed great resilience across three games before eventually succumbing to her Indonesian opponent.
Slow Start in the Opening Game
Ratchanok Intanon took control of the match early on, applying continuous pressure on the Indian shuttler throughout the first game. Sindhu struggled to find her rhythm on court as Intanon executed her strategy effectively. With precise shot placement and dominant play, the Indonesian star closed out the opening game 21-11 to take a 1-0 lead in the encounter.
Strong Resurgence in the Second Game
Refusing to back down, Sindhu raised her game significantly in the second set. The Indian shuttler adjusted her tactics, showing better movement and precision to push her rival to the limit. In a closely fought contest where points were traded back and forth, Sindhu maintained her composure during crucial rallies to claim the second game 21-19 and level the match at one game apiece.
Decisive Final Game Goes Intanon's Way
The match moved into a high-stakes third set to determine the semifinalist. Both players fought relentlessly for every point in a tense concluding game. While Sindhu made every effort to stay within striking distance, Intanon seized the advantage during critical moments. The top seed converted key opportunities to take the final set 21-18, effectively concluding Sindhu's run in the tournament.
Journey to the Quarterfinals
Prior to her quarterfinal clash, Sindhu had earned her spot in the top eight by overcoming Japan's Riko Gunji in the previous round. Indian badminton supporters had high hopes for her to reach the semifinals, but the three-game battle against the top-seeded Indonesian player ultimately ended her campaign in Vantaa.
