The state of Chhattisgarh is all set to script a new chapter in its sporting history by organizing its maiden hockey league. State Sports Minister Arun Saw addressed a press conference to officially announce this major initiative, outlining the tentative schedule for the upcoming tournament. According to the details shared, the high-profile hockey league is expected to take place from October 21 to November 1. This groundbreaking announcement has generated immense excitement among sports enthusiasts and aspiring athletes across the region, marking a significant leap forward for sports development in the state.

During the press briefing, Sports Minister Arun Saw described the occasion as a landmark day for the sports history of Chhattisgarh. Team Composition, Format, and OTT Broadcasting
Laying down the structural details of the competition, it was revealed that a total of 6 hockey teams will battle it out for the title. Each participating team will consist of a roster of 22 players. To ensure local representation while fostering competitive spirit, the rules mandate that out of the 22 players in every team, 18 must belong to Chhattisgarh, while the remaining 4 players will be brought in from other states. In a major boost for accessibility, the hockey matches will be broadcast live on OTT platforms, allowing fans to stream the action from anywhere. Furthermore, the official logo of the hockey league was unveiled during the event, featuring the catchy tagline 'Chalo Re Sangi, Hockey Khelbo'. The minister confirmed that the tournament will be conducted in a strictly professional manner keeping in line with Hockey India standards. As for the competition format, the tournament will initially follow a league stage followed by high-stakes knockout matches.
Cultural Unveiling and the Baghwa Mascot
To infuse local flavor and enthusiasm into the sporting extravaganza, unique cultural and thematic elements have been incorporated. The official mascot for the hockey league has been named 'Baghwa', the regional term for a tiger, which represents courage, strength, and enlightenment.
