However, District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar intervened with timely assistance. Through administrative coordination, the student was presented with a check of Rs 1,00,000 alongside a free roadways bus pass to ensure her coaching and daily commute continue without disruption.
Years of Financial Hardship Following Father's Passing
The Prajapati family experienced immense hardship in 2005 when Menka's father passed away, leaving the household without its primary wage earner. The sudden loss pushed the family into severe financial distress, forcing them to struggle for daily survival. To keep the household running and feed the family, her mother, Sarita Devi, began working as a domestic helper cleaning utensils in neighboring homes. Meanwhile, Menka's brother took up driving a handcart to earn a meager daily income.
Despite these daunting circumstances, Menka Prajapati remained resolute in her educational ambitions. Recognizing that securing a stable government job was the most viable path to overcome her family's poverty, she set her sights on clearing competitive examinations conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC). She firmly believed that academic success could permanently transform her family's living conditions.
The Challenge of a 60-Kilometer Daily Commute and Coaching Expenses
Pursuing competitive exam coaching posed severe logistical and financial challenges for Menka. Her home in Kanpur Fateh village is located approximately 60 kilometers away from Azamgarh city, where the coaching centers are situated. The cumulative cost of daily travel fares and monthly coaching institute fees became impossible for her family to manage, given their extremely limited household income.
As financial constraints threatened to halt her studies completely, Menka decided to seek help directly from the district authorities. She visited the Azamgarh Collectorate and submitted her plight to District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar, explaining how poverty was impeding her educational goals and preventing her from attending classes in the city.
District Administration Intervenes with Bus Pass and Financial Aid
Moved by Menka's story and her dedication to education despite extreme adversity, District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar took immediate action. To resolve her daily commuting difficulties, the DM coordinated with Roadways Regional Manager (RM) Ajay Singh to arrange a free bus pass, enabling her to travel hassle-free between her village and Azamgarh city each day.
To ensure her studies remained unhindered, DM Ravindra Kumar also facilitated financial assistance of Rs 1,00,000 with the support of a local philanthropist. At the Collectorate office, the District Magistrate formally handed over the Rs 1,00,000 check to Menka Prajapati and her mother, Sarita Devi, offering them critical support at a pivotal moment in her academic journey.
Family Expresses Gratitude and Reaffirms Educational Goals
Receiving the financial aid brought an emotional moment for Menka and her mother, Sarita Devi. Menka recounted that when she initially received a call from the DM office announcing the Rs 1,00,000 assistance, it felt almost surreal for a family in their condition. She noted that this support would serve as a vital lifeline for her educational pursuits.
Expressing deep gratitude to District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar, the social worker, and Roadways officials, Menka pledged to channel all her energy into her exam preparation. With travel expenses and tuition fees covered, she expressed confidence in her ability to clear the SSC examination and build a secure financial future for her family.
