Suresh Kumar, who already holds two PhD degrees and an MBA, has successfully cleared India's competitive medical entrance examination, NEET UG, 34 years after completing high school in 1992. Following the results and counseling process, he has been allotted an MBBS seat at Nagapattinam Government Medical College, paving the way for him to finally fulfill his childhood ambition of becoming a doctor.
From Pharmacy Student to Corporate Vice President
Back in 1992, Suresh Kumar completed his 12th grade schooling with a strong desire to pursue medicine. However, family obligations at the time prevented him from enrolling in an MBBS program. Choosing an alternative pathway into healthcare, he began his academic trajectory with a Diploma in Pharmacy. Driven by a passion for higher education and continuous growth, he subsequently earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), a Master of Business Administration (MBA), and two separate PhD degrees. His professional dedication saw him rise through the corporate ranks to hold the position of Vice President at a reputed diagnostics enterprise.
How a Supreme Court Decision Reignited a Passion
Despite reaching senior leadership in the healthcare industry, Suresh Kumar never lost his inner calling to practice medicine directly. A major turning point arrived in 2020, when the Supreme Court of India removed the upper age restriction for candidates appearing for NEET UG. The landmark ruling opened the doors for individuals of any age to take the exam. Determined not to live with lifelong regret over an unfulfilled goal, Suresh Kumar decided to take up the challenge and begin preparing for the medical entrance test while continuing his full time corporate leadership role.
Balancing Corporate Work, Night Studies, and Family Support
Preparing for a demanding entrance test like NEET UG alongside executive work required an exceptional level of discipline. Suresh Kumar managed his daily job during working hours and dedicated his late evenings from 10 PM to 12 AM to intensive study. To maintain a strong grasp over core concepts, he personally taught high school Biology to his son. Family support played a crucial role in maintaining his rigorous schedule, as his wife assisted him by waking him up at 4 AM every morning so he could follow his study routine consistently without missing a day.
Exam Score, Quota Allocation, and Vision for Public Service
In the NEET UG exam, Suresh Kumar scored 192 marks out of a maximum of 720. Having suffered physical limitations following a past road accident, he qualified under the Persons with Disabilities (PWD) special quota, securing his seat at Nagapattinam Government Medical College. Expressing his excitement about entering medical school alongside classmates less than half his age, Suresh Kumar emphasized that age is merely a number. Looking ahead, he announced his intention to work in remote and hilly areas without taking any salary, focusing entirely on treating underprivileged patients once he completes his MBBS degree.
