Venturing away from conventional agricultural practices, young entrepreneurs in rural regions are unlocking lucrative commercial opportunities. In Karamwa village, situated within the Majhaulia block of West Champaran district, 25-year-old Aryan has demonstrated how precision poultry management can deliver remarkable commercial returns. Within just one year of launching his duck farming project, he has crossed an annual revenue run rate of over Rs 50 lakh, establishing himself among the premier waterfowl farmers across the state.
The Initial Setup and Operational Foundation
Aryan embarked on this journey in September 2025 with a primary capital investment of approximately Rs 7 lakh. The venture started across a one-acre pond stocked with a flock of 1,000 ducks. His founding flock comprised around 250 drakes and 750 female ducks. For the first three months, he focused entirely on feed management, hydration, and flock maintenance to nurture the birds until they achieved optimal egg-laying maturity.
Production Commences and a Strategic Marketing Shift
The enterprise experienced its major economic breakthrough during the fourth month when the flock commenced laying. The group of 750 female ducks generated a steady yield of roughly 500 eggs each day. At the time, selling duck eggs directly for household consumption fetched only between Rs 5 and Rs 6 per piece in the local market. Rather than settling for these modest returns, Aryan pivoted his distribution strategy toward commercial hatcheries.
Hatcheries require fertile eggs to incubate and produce ducklings across an incubation span of 28 to 30 days. By catering specifically to these hatchery operators, Aryan secured a wholesale price of Rs 12.50 per egg. Capturing more than double the price of culinary table eggs transformed the financial dynamics of the farm, providing the cash flow necessary for rapid infrastructure expansion.
Scaling Capacity to Achieve Rs 5 Lakh Monthly Income
Encouraged by these healthy margins, Aryan scaled his operations at the start of 2026. He constructed a second pond spanning one acre, bringing his total water area to two acres, and doubled his flock size to 2,000 ducks. This expansion elevated daily yields to between 1,200 and 1,300 eggs.
By managing this higher productivity, Aryan now supplies approximately 40,000 eggs to commercial hatcheries each month. This consistent wholesale volume delivers an estimated monthly income of around Rs 5 lakh, pushing his total annual earnings past the milestone of Rs 50 lakh and proving the commercial potential of systematic waterfowl farming.
