Dancer Roshan Shahi, who hails from Ranchi in Jharkhand, has won the first runner-up title at the World of Dance competition held in Indonesia. Around 1500 dancers from nearly 100 countries took part in the event, and Roshan finished ahead of all of them to claim this position. Before this win, he had already showcased his skills in Japan, Vietnam and several other countries.
A Childhood Shaped By Struggle
Roshan's early years were far from easy. He lost his father while he was still a child, and the responsibility of running the household fell entirely on his mother. To support the family, she even took up a job as a security guard. There were times when the family did not have enough money for even a single meal in a day. Roshan says the biggest credit for reaching this point goes to his mother, who lived through hardship herself but never let her children feel the lack of anything.
From Japan To Bollywood
In Japan, Roshan cleared a tough audition conducted by world famous choreographer Sean Lew and earned a place in a short dance film. He has also worked as a backstage dancer in Bollywood. Now, representing India at the World of Dance competition in Indonesia, Roshan has become the only dancer from Jharkhand to achieve this feat. He says he does not want to remain confined to backstage roles forever and wants to build an identity of his own. He is also active on social media, where his Instagram account has millions of followers who watch the dance videos he regularly posts.
The Guru Who Believed In Him
Roshan began learning to dance at the age of 7. His passion for dance was evident from a young age, and his mother fully supported him in pursuing it. It was his dance guru who first trained him. However, when the time came to take part in a competition as big as World of Dance, Roshan did not have enough money to travel to cities like Mumbai and Delhi, and he was not in a position to ask anyone for financial help. It was his dance guru who stepped in, arranged the money, and sent him to Mumbai and Delhi. Roshan credits both his mother and his dance guru for playing a major role in his success.
Roshan's Message For The Youth
Following his achievement, Roshan has a clear message for young people, work hard instead of making excuses. Whatever resources a person has, they should give their best with what is available rather than looking for reasons to rest. According to Roshan, life is not meant for resting, it is meant for hard work and for achieving something meaningful.
