British number one Katie Boulter has been knocked out of the Japan Open in the semi-finals, marking her first appearance since reclaiming the top spot in Britain from Sonny Kartal. The 30-year-old was aiming to secure a place in the final and chase her fifth WTA singles title, but fell short following a 6-1 6-4 defeat against doubles world number one Siniakova.
Boulter Fights Back After Tough First Set
Seeded eighth in the tournament, Boulter struggled initially as she was swept aside in the opening set. However, she showed great resilience by rallying in the second set, claiming an early break to put pressure on her opponent. Despite this spirited comeback, the 30-year-old Siniakova kept her hopes alive for a first singles title in four years by securing two hard-fought breaks to seal the victory in 85 minutes.
Upcoming Final Showdown in Japan
Following her impressive semi-final win, Siniakova will now face 2023 champion Ashlyn Krueger in Sunday's final. The 22-year-old American booked her spot in the championship match after overcoming compatriot and top seed Ann Li with a 6-4 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 victory. Boulter, meanwhile, will look to regroup following her strong run in the tournament after recently reclaiming her national ranking.
