Efforts to deliver safe and permanent housing to economically vulnerable families in Tripura reached a major milestone on Thursday. Chief Minister Manik Saha opened the newly completed blocks A and F of the Agartala Lighthouse Project situated along the Akhaura border. Across these two blocks, a total of 278 residential flats are completely finished and prepared for handover to eligible beneficiaries. The launch proceedings began with the Chief Minister personally inspecting the newly erected structures, followed by an official digital inauguration conducted from the stage.
Union Minister Manohar Lal Attends Virtually
Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal participated in the event as the chief guest via video link. During his address, Chief Minister Manik Saha conveyed appreciation to the Union Minister for actively assisting in clearing operational hurdles that had previously slowed the project down. Emphasising the administration's broader vision, the Chief Minister noted that secure and affordable shelter gives families enduring peace of mind, restoring confidence and self-respect among working households that have waited years for stable housing.
Light Gauge Steel Frame Engineering Powers the Build
The broader master plan for the Agartala Lighthouse Project encompasses 1,000 residential apartments in total, with each individual flat spanning approximately 30 square metres, or roughly 320 square feet. Structural construction relies on advanced Light Gauge Steel Frame technology. This modern engineering approach accelerates project timelines, reduces expenditure, and delivers eco-friendly resilience without compromising on build quality. The Chief Minister described the site as a premier demonstration of contemporary building methods that will guide subsequent housing developments across Tripura.
Part of a Nationwide Initiative Across Six Cities
Agartala stands among six select cities across the country chosen for this pioneering housing initiative designed to transform urban infrastructure for low-income citizens. Expressing confidence regarding remaining work, the Chief Minister affirmed that the remaining blocks on the site are scheduled for timely completion, ensuring that pending beneficiaries receive their permanent residences within the stipulated schedule.
