Security forces in Tripura achieved a significant breakthrough in curbing illicit ammunition movement by intercepting a suspected arms trafficker in Udaipur. Operating under the jurisdiction of the Maharani police station on Thursday, law enforcement personnel recovered a haul of 200 live bullets from the suspect, who is reportedly affiliated with the Santu faction of the Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS).
Identity and Operational Links of the Accused
Police identified the arrested operative as Bimal Chakma, son of Bhubanta Chakma. He is a resident of Shantitila, situated in Dudukchhara within the Panchhari sector of Khagrachhari. According to available operational details, Bimal Chakma is suspected of functioning on the ground for Pratyuttar Chakma and Samajpriya Chakma, two prominent figures within the JSS (Santu faction).
Chain of Command and Insurgent Links
The network extends deeper into established militant hierarchies across the border region. Both Pratyuttar Chakma and Samajpriya Chakma operate under the command structure headed by Jyotisman Chakma, also known by the alias Bulbul. Jyotisman Chakma serves as the deputy field commander of the Jumma Liberation Army (JLA) and is the grandson of Santu Larma, underscoring the organized operational chain behind the courier.
Ongoing Probe Into Smuggling Routes
Investigators are pursuing active inquiries to uncover the entire supply route associated with the confiscated ammunition. Law enforcement officials are actively working to establish the origin of the 200 bullets, identify the designated drop-off point or end recipients, and dismantle any broader collaborative network facilitating cross-border ammunition movements in the state.
