Ram Kapoor, one of the most familiar faces across television and Bollywood, is today seen as a picture of success, but his beginnings were remarkably modest. Before stepping in front of the camera, he honed his craft on the theatre stage, learning the finer points of acting there. That early grounding made the foundation of his performances so strong that the roles he later took on in television and films came to him with ease.
He now has both wealth and fame, yet the early years of his career told a very different story. Speaking in an interview, Ram looked back at a time when money was painfully tight. He revealed that in the beginning his monthly earnings were just 1,500 rupees, and that for a while after his wedding the household ran on the income of his wife, Gautami.
Ram spoke candidly about that phase.
Over the next 15 to 20 years of my career I made fantastic money from television. If you invest that income wisely, your life is set. Working in the TV industry is exhausting and difficult, but if you succeed here, your fortunes change. I started with 1,500 rupees, and for some time after marriage I lived on Gautami's money.
The Journey From 1,500 Rupees to 135 Crore
On the strength of sustained hard work, Ram Kapoor is today counted among the wealthiest personalities in the television industry, with his net worth estimated at around 135 crore rupees. He prefers to keep his personal life and his collection away from the spotlight, yet his love for luxury and high-speed cars is no secret.
A Garage Full of Luxury Cars
His garage houses cars such as a Mercedes-AMG G63, a BMW X5, a Porsche and a Ferrari. More recently, he added a Lamborghini Urus, worth roughly 5.21 crore rupees, to his collection.
Beyond cars, he owns some grand properties. He has a large, beautiful home in Mumbai, along with plush villas in Goa and Khandala for holidays. In Alibaug, too, he owns an expensive holiday home valued at around 20 crore rupees.
A TV Career That Began With Nyay and Heena
Ram Kapoor entered the world of television in the late 1990s with serials like 'Nyay' and 'Heena'. These early roles introduced him to audiences for the first time. They may have been small parts, but they marked his presence in the industry and set off his steady climb.
How Kasamh Se Changed Everything
The real turning point of his career came with the 2006 superhit show 'Kasamh Se'. In it he played a businessman named Ram Kapoor, which, interestingly, is also his real name. Viewers loved his performance so much that he became a household name. He went on to prove his versatility with several hit shows such as 'Bade Achhe Lagte Hain' and 'Karle Tu Bhi Mohabbat'.
From the Small Screen to the Big One
After cementing his place on television, Ram Kapoor gradually turned to films. He delivered fine supporting performances in movies like 'Udaan' (2010), 'Student of the Year' (2012) and 'Humshakals' (2014). The size of the screen changed, but the impact of his acting stayed the same, showing that he could adapt himself just as comfortably to the cinematic format as to television.
From OTT to Reality Television
As the digital era took off, Ram Kapoor updated himself for OTT platforms as well. He worked in popular web series such as 'Cold Lassi Aur Chicken Masala' and 'Abhay 2', which won him a new and younger audience. Keeping pace with the changing world of entertainment, he will soon be seen showing his mettle on the Netflix reality show 'Lock Upp Season 2'.
