The election authorities in Uttar Pradesh have ordered a fresh round of polling at three specific voting centers in Agra following intense scrutiny over the recent legislative council elections. The Returning Officer for the Agra teachers constituency formally recommended re-polling at these disputed booths, and the proposal was forwarded to the Election Commission of India through Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa. While the final date for the fresh polls has not been officially announced yet, the administrative clearance for the re-vote has been granted.
The Three Booths Designated for Re-Polling
Based on the official recommendations submitted by district authorities, the re-polling will take place at three locations where irregularities were reported. These include booth number 20 located at polling center room number 1 inside the Kheragarh tehsil premises, booth number 21 situated at polling center room number 1 of the Saiya block panchayat office, and booth number 26 located at polling center room number 1 of the Fatehabad block panchayat office. The decision to conduct fresh voting at these stations aims to address the complaints raised during the initial polling phase.
The Viral Video of the Samajwadi Party Candidate
The controversy gained massive traction after a video of Samajwadi Party candidate Dr. Akash Agarwal went viral on social media. Dr. Agarwal had arrived at the divisional headquarters to formally register his grievances regarding the election process. He openly accused officials of allowing booth capturing and widespread rigging. Following a meeting with Divisional Commissioner Nagendra Pratap, he broke down in front of media personnel while detailing the extreme pressure and targeting he and his supporters were facing.
Emotional Outburst and Allegations Against Administration
Visibly shaken by the administrative handling of the election, Dr. Agarwal expressed deep frustration during his media interaction. He questioned whether he had any fundamental right to contest an election peacefully, alleging that local police could frame him in false cases by planting drugs or weapons to send him to jail. He further claimed that attempts were being made to brand him as a Pakistani. Accusing the government of mocking democracy, he stated that he no longer cared about winning the MLC seat and expressed anguish over the harassment of his family and supporting teachers, even hinting at changing his religious faith due to the extreme mental distress.
Action Follows Formal Complaints and Investigation
Following the formal complaints lodged by the Samajwadi Party candidate and the subsequent circulation of his emotional video, election officials initiated a comprehensive inquiry into the matter. The party had consistently alleged rigging and administrative bias across multiple locations during the polling day. Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa confirmed that the recommendation for re-polling at the three specific booths was processed after reviewing the ground situation and reports from local administrative channels, paving the way for a fair electoral exercise.
