In a significant operation against rising crime, police in Uttar Pradesh's capital, Lucknow, have successfully neutralized a high-profile criminal. On Saturday, a police encounter resulted in the death of Sanjay, alias Sanjeev, who carried a bounty of 1 lakh rupees on his head. The deceased was a native of Chak Kodar village, falling under the Ahirauli police station jurisdiction in Ambedkar Nagar district, and had been absconding for an extended period while facing numerous serious criminal charges.
Prime Suspect in the Builder Sandeep Singh Case
According to official police records, Sanjay served as the primary shooter in the high-profile murder of builder Sandeep Singh, which occurred on May 27, 2026, within the PGI police station area. Law enforcement agencies had been actively pursuing him since the incident took place. To expedite his apprehension, the Commissioner of Police, Lucknow, had declared a reward of 1 lakh rupees for information leading to his arrest. Following a tip-off late at night, police tracked him to the Indira Canal Road area.
Neutralized Following Armed Confrontation
A police team, operating under the command of Additional Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar Singh, cordoned off the location. An exchange of fire ensued, during which Sanjay sustained bullet injuries. Although he was swiftly transported to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for urgent medical attention, the attending doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Authorities noted that Sanjay was a notorious criminal involved in various sensational murders across multiple districts, including Ambedkar Nagar, Ayodhya, and Basti. He was identified as an active associate of criminal gangs led by individuals such as Dilip Verma and Khan Mubarak. At present, legal proceedings are underway, and police are investigating the potential involvement and roles of his remaining accomplices in the criminal network.
