A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in the Mangla Vihar area, falling under the jurisdiction of the Chakeri police station in Kanpur, where a 38-year-old woman named Archana Shukla was found dead inside her room. Approximately three years ago, Archana had lost her husband, Ritesh Shukla, to a prolonged illness. Ever since his untimely demise, she had been carrying the heavy responsibility of managing the household and raising her two daughters single-handedly. According to relatives and neighbors, the prolonged struggle had pushed her into severe mental stress, an emotional burden that had visibly worsened over the preceding few days. After finishing lunch, she had gone into her bedroom claiming she needed rest, after which the harrowing discovery was made.
Routine Lunch Followed by a Tragic Step
The day had begun just like any other ordinary morning in the Mangla Vihar household. Archana's younger daughter, who is currently pursuing her school education, left for school as per her daily routine. Following her departure, Archana completed the domestic chores and cooked the afternoon meal for the family. The family members gathered together and ate their lunch in a calm atmosphere. After finishing her meal, Archana told the family that she was feeling tired and wished to lie down in her room to take some rest. She then headed into her room, leaving no indication or warning of the extreme step she was about to take, while the rest of the household continued with their daytime routine.
Elder Daughter Discovers the Scene
After a considerable amount of time elapsed without any movement from the room, Archana's elder daughter, Mahek, went to check on her mother. Mahek, who works in a private company and supports the family financially, opened the door only to be confronted with a horrifying sight. Her mother's body was hanging from the ceiling, suspended by a sari. In absolute shock and distress, Mahek let out loud screams, alerting everyone in the house and the neighborhood. Hearing her frantic cries, other family members and nearby residents rushed inside the house. Archana's brother-in-law, who lives in the immediate neighborhood, also rushed to the spot alongside other relatives, all devastated by the sudden tragedy.
Forensic Examination and Police Procedures
Upon realizing the gravity of the situation, the family immediately contacted the emergency police helpline 112. A police team from Chakeri police station reached the residence shortly thereafter to secure the area. An expert forensic unit was also summoned to the house in Mangla Vihar to conduct a rigorous examination of the premises. Forensic experts inspected the room thoroughly, looking for physical and scientific clues around the point of suspension and collecting the sari used in the act. Once the preliminary inspection and scene processing were wrapped up, the police sent the body for an autopsy to determine the precise medical circumstances of her death.
Autopsy Awaited for Formal Confirmation
Providing details on the ongoing inquiry, Chakeri police station in-charge Ajay Pratap Mishra stated that initial findings indicate the woman had been experiencing immense mental trauma following her husband's demise three years prior. Statements taken from family members similarly corroborated that she had appeared visibly depressed and distressed over recent days. The police have recorded depositions from the relatives and are fulfilling all requisite legal protocols. The police officer emphasized that while stress seems to be the primary driving factor, the definitive cause of death will only be certified once the postmortem report is handed over. The tragic incident leaves the two young daughters orphaned, having lost both parents within a span of three years.
