On the occasion of Police Commemoration Day, the Uttar Pradesh Police has rolled out a special short film named Vardi to pay tribute to personnel who laid down their lives while performing their official duties. The project has been shared across the official social media channels of the state police department to highlight the bravery and dedication of fallen officers.
Highlighting the Emotional Struggle of Families
The narrative goes beyond routine tributes to focus on the quiet waiting and emotional turmoil experienced by the families left behind. It portrays the profound void and pain that enters the lives of loved ones after such a tragic loss. Through this medium, the creators have sought to emphasize that while society takes immense pride in the ultimate sacrifices made by security personnel, the personal grief of their families remains an enduring part of their lives.
A Collaborative Creative Effort
Acclaimed director, writer, and actor Tigmanshu Dhulia, who holds a Filmfare Award for his work, directed the project. The cast features prominent names including actor Amit Sadh, veteran television actress Alka Amin, and Nazish Khan. The background script and voice-over were handled by constable Kapil Dinkar from the social media center of the Uttar Pradesh Police, while Rahul Srivastava served as the creative director. The production was supported by the Department of Information and Public Relations, Uttar Pradesh, with filming taking place in Mumbai.
Honoring Inspector Sunil Kumar
The project draws special attention to the supreme sacrifice of Kirti Chakra recipient Inspector Sunil Kumar of the Uttar Pradesh STF. On the midnight of January 20-21, 2025, during an intense encounter in Shamli against criminals associated with the Mukim Kala gang, Inspector Kumar sustained severe injuries while leading his team. His team's retaliatory fire resulted in the deaths of four criminals, including Arshad, who carried a reward of one lakh rupees. Inspector Kumar succumbed to his injuries on January 22, 2025. Chief Minister Yogi आदित्यनाथ recently honored his wife, Munesh Devi, with a cash award and traditional attire.
