Medical aspirants preparing for undergraduate admissions now have a clear roadmap for the upcoming academic year. The Medical Counselling Committee has published the detailed schedule for MBBS and allied undergraduate medical courses for the 2026-27 session. As per the official plan, the first round of seat allotment under the All India Quota begins on August 4. Medical colleges across the country will commence their new academic session on September 8, while subsequent rounds continue in parallel to fill any remaining vacancies.
All India Quota Seat Allotment Phases
For deemed and central universities, the opening round of counselling will take place from August 4 to August 17. Candidates securing seats in this initial phase must complete their admission formalities at the designated institutions by August 22.
The second round is scheduled to run from August 24 through September 2, followed by the third phase from September 10 to September 18. To address leftover vacancies, the stray vacancy round will be conducted between September 28 and October 3. The final cut-off date to secure admission following this stray round has been fixed as October 10.
Timeline for State Quota Admissions
Admissions for state quota seats will follow an aligned timeline, with the first round operating from August 13 to August 22. Selected students in this phase are required to complete their reporting by August 28.
The second state round is set for August 31 to September 8, and the third round will be organized from September 16 to September 26. The stray vacancy round for state seats will subsequently wrap up between October 3 and October 5.
Enforcing Deadlines and Working Through Holidays
The academic term in medical colleges will officially commence on September 8, even as later counselling stages proceed to allocate leftover seats. Participating colleges, state authorities, and associated administrative agencies have received strict directives to adhere to every deadline. To maintain the calendar without delays, weekends including Saturdays and Sundays, as well as gazetted holidays, will be treated as standard working days throughout the process.
Candidate-Friendly Reforms in the Admission System
Several operational revisions have been introduced this year by the Medical Counselling Committee to enhance procedural transparency and ease student burdens.
- Applicants who have been allocated a seat and opt for course or college upgradation will no longer need to physically visit the college merely to satisfy formalities, as their allotment remains protected within the digital system.
- Students can now tender resignations online directly via the MCC portal within the designated timeframe, eliminating the requirement to submit in-person requests on campus.
- Candidates applying under the NRI quota in deemed universities have been permitted to upload their supporting credentials directly onto the digital portal.
- The administrative objective behind these modifications is to streamline verification and reduce travel requirements for applicants.
