A petty disagreement over a food order in outer Delhi took a horrifying turn when a customer was repeatedly stabbed with a knife and later succumbed to his injuries during medical treatment. The tragic incident occurred in the Nihal Vihar area, where 35-year-old Sandeep, who worked as a car driver, visited a roadside cart for a meal. An escalating argument over a request for an additional serving of food ended with the food cart vendor allegedly inflicting multiple deep wounds on the victim. Following two days of fighting for his life in intensive medical care, Sandeep passed away on Tuesday. Police arrested the vendor, Chintu Gupta, and added murder charges to the case after the victim died.
Dispute Erupted Near Jwalapuri Drain Over Additional Food Serving
The violent altercation took place on Sunday near the Jwalapuri drain in the Nihal Vihar jurisdiction. Sandeep had stopped by a roadside cart operated by Chintu Gupta to eat chhole-bhature. During the meal, Sandeep requested the vendor to serve a small extra portion of chhole. The inquiry indicates that this modest request triggered an unexpected argument between the two men. Verbal friction quickly escalated into heated abuses and physical jostling. In a sudden fit of rage, the cart operator allegedly grabbed a knife kept at the stall and assaulted Sandeep, targeting his abdomen and various other parts of his body before anyone could intervene to de-escalate the situation.
Critical Injuries Led to Death After Two Days in Hospital
Police received official information on October 26 regarding Sandeep being admitted in a critical condition to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital. Because of severe blood loss and deep abdominal lacerations, treating physicians declared Sandeep medically unfit to give any formal statement to the investigating officers. Due to his rapidly deteriorating condition, the family and medical team shifted him to Maharaja Agrasen Hospital in Punjabi Bagh for specialized care. Despite intensive clinical efforts, Sandeep died on Tuesday. In the meantime, police personnel visited the crime scene, collected physical clues, and apprehended Chintu Gupta, who was subsequently presented before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
Grieving Father Alleges Multiple Attackers, Demands Full Investigation
Sandeep lived with his family in Rao Vihar, located within the Nihal Vihar area, serving as the sole breadwinner through his driving work. His sudden death leaves behind his wife and two young sons, aged 10 and 4 years. His grieving father, Bijender Singh, rushed to the spot upon receiving word of the assault and received assistance from local bystanders to lift his bleeding son. Singh expressed immense grief, remarking that asking for a little more food should never have cost a young father his life. Furthermore, Singh alleged that the vendor was not acting alone and claimed three to four people participated in the assault on his son. He urged law enforcement to identify and arrest every individual involved in the fatal attack, while police maintained that comprehensive investigation into the incident is actively underway.
