A distressing incident of food poisoning occurred on Friday at the Government Upper Primary School in Surwas village, located within the Sujangarh subdivision of Rajasthan's Churu district. During the regular midday meal service, students were served food from a container that was later discovered to contain a lizard. More than 36 young schoolchildren fell ill shortly after consuming the contaminated meal, exhibiting severe symptoms of food poisoning, including acute abdominal pain, vomiting, and nausea. The rapid deterioration of the children's condition triggered panic within the school premises, prompting an immediate rescue effort where victims were transported to the Government Bagadiya Hospital in Sujangarh using private vehicles and 108 emergency ambulances.
Lizard Spotted Mid-Distribution After Several Children Ate
Detailing how the event unfolded, Monika, a teacher at the school, stated that the lizard was spotted in the serving vessel right in the middle of food distribution. The teaching staff acted swiftly to halt any further serving of the meal, but several students had unfortunately already eaten their portions by that point. Symptoms began manifesting rapidly across the student group soon after ingestion. Magaram, the guardian of an affected student, placed the blame squarely on gross negligence during meal preparation, asserting that a lack of basic hygiene and safety precautions in the cooking area allowed the lizard to fall into the food, endangering innocent lives.
Administrative and Education Officials Oversee Medical Care
The news prompted an immediate response from local administrative and educational authorities. Sujangarh Tehsildar Arjun Lal Salodia and Chief Block Education Officer Ranjeet Singh Bhinchar rushed directly to the Government Bagadiya Hospital to assess the situation firsthand. The visiting officials inspected the emergency ward where the affected children were admitted, directing the medical team on duty to provide the best possible treatment and continuous medical care. Dedicated monitoring teams from both the health and education departments have been placed on active duty to track the students' health recovery continuously.
Parents Express Outrage as Officials Pledge Thorough Inquiry
As the report of contaminated food and widespread illness reached Surwas village, profound anxiety and outrage gripped the local community. A large gathering of anxious parents and villagers gathered at the Bagadiya Hospital premises to demand accountability from school authorities and the kitchen staff responsible for preparing the midday meal. Tensions subsided only after administrative officials gave a firm assurance to the agitated parents that a thorough and transparent inquiry would be conducted, with strict disciplinary penalties enforced against anyone found guilty of negligence in their duties.
