A severe controversy has broken out following the demise of veteran Bollywood actor Nana Patekar, after actress Tanushree Dutta made a contentious public remark about him. Dutta sparked immediate outrage across social media by referring to him as Evil Dead after his death. The offensive characterization prompted the All Indian Cine Workers Association, widely known as AICWA, to register strong objections and issue a blistering condemnation of her statements.
Accusations of Cheap Publicity and Call for Decency
AICWA President Engineer Suresh Shyamlal Gupta released a formal statement across social media platforms, including X and Instagram, reprimanding the actress for her conduct. He stated that resorting to such coarse and harsh language following a person's death goes entirely against basic humanity. Gupta further observed that never in the entire history of the Indian film industry had anyone made such an irresponsible remark upon someone's demise.
Highlighting the gravity of the incident, Gupta remarked that Dutta became the first individual to commit such an act, adding that one can only pray she remains the last. He asserted that this behaviour merely exposes a troubling mindset, pointing out that attempting to chase cheap publicity while the entire nation mourns the loss of its own child is unacceptable.
Remembering Nana Patekar's Contributions to Society
Paying tribute to the departed star, the association president praised Nana Patekar's immense dedication to the country and social welfare. He emphasized that the actor was a Padma Shri recipient and a celebrated figure whose legacy extends far beyond cinema. During the Kargil war, he served the nation selflessly, standing by the armed forces and the country.
Furthermore, his Naam Foundation consistently stood beside impoverished farmers and their struggling families during critical times of distress. Gupta reiterated that in the wake of such a noble figure's departure, the entire entertainment fraternity stands firmly in solidarity with the grieving family.
Warning to Exercise Restraint and Mind Own Business
Addressing Dutta directly, Suresh Shyamlal Gupta advised her to keep her speech in check. He observed that professionals within the industry understand full well when to speak and when to maintain respectful silence during solemn occasions. Taking aim at her references to an upcoming event in Lucknow, he noted that whether her program takes place in Lucknow or in London, nobody carries the slightest interest in it.
Gupta stated that boasting about personal schedules on a day when an entire country is plunged into sorrow over losing a monumental artist reflects a very shallow perspective. AICWA told Dutta firmly to focus strictly on her own affairs, emphasizing that while the public has no desire to track her personal plans, everyone cares deeply about a legendary artist like Nana Patekar.
