A major mishap occurred during the traditional chariot procession of the Bastar Dussehra celebrations. While the massive chariot was moving along its route, an electric pole installed on the roadside collided with the structure and crashed to the ground. The heavy pole directly struck devotees and onlookers standing nearby, triggering immediate panic as people scrambled in different directions to save themselves.
Incident Captured on Camera
The entire sequence of events was recorded on a nearby CCTV camera. The collapse of the structure resulted in injuries to multiple people present at the spot. During the incident, intense sparks were seen emitting from live electrical wires. Fortunately, no one came into direct contact with these sparks, which averted a far greater catastrophe.
Narrow Escape for Scooter Rider
Due to the sudden diversion of the chariot route, a two-wheeler rider narrowly escaped being crushed under the wheels. Security personnel stationed at the location acted swiftly and pulled the scooter rider out to safety. Reports indicate that some mischievous individuals pulling the chariot abruptly altered its path, speeding it toward Power House Chowk, which directly triggered the accident.
Police Intervention and Resumption
Immediately following the incident, police personnel deployed at the venue stepped in to manage the chaos. They cleared the crowd and brought the situation under control, while counseling the individuals pulling the chariot to conduct the procession with due reverence. After a considerable delay, the stalled ritual was successfully completed.
