Nearly two decades ago, a young college student authored a final thesis centered on software capable of generating design documents for school buildings. Al Drams pursued architecture studies while following in the footsteps of both his parents and grandfather, yet technology remained his primary fascination. The fundamental obstacle at the time was simply that the technology required to build his concept did not yet exist.
The landscape shifted when OpenAI launched its generative AI chatbot powered by large language models in November 2022. That long-held vision suddenly appeared entirely feasible. Within a span of six months, the concept evolved into Blueprints AI, a startup utilizing artificial intelligence to produce code-compliant and permit-ready architectural construction blueprints within minutes from a basic 2D sketch or PDF.
Academic Background and Professional Journey
Prior to establishing Blueprints AI, Drams earned both bachelor's and master's degrees in architecture from the University of Tehran, followed by two years of Ph.D. coursework focusing on digital design at the European Graduate School situated in Switzerland. Relocating to the United States, he opened an architecture firm named Drams Architects in 2018. After securing a general contractor license, he further expanded his operations by adding a construction business in 2021.
Despite these achievements, a deeper ambition remained unfulfilled. The primary motivation centered on achieving substantial impact, minimizing wasted hours, and eliminating repetitive tasks that drained human energy. The ultimate goal is to foster better spaces by granting architects the freedom to genuinely design. According to industry observations, professionals spend roughly 80 percent of their working hours on drafting and a mere 20 percent on creative design, a ratio the founders aim to completely reverse.
Founding Team and Training Data
Drams crossed paths with Cao at an artificial intelligence conference several years ago, leading them to merge their respective skill sets to establish the enterprise. Cao, operating as the chief commercial officer, manages sales and the overarching go-to-market strategy. The founding duo trained their proprietary models utilizing eight years of historical, approved drawing sets originating directly from Drams' active design and construction firm.
The initial software iteration generates comprehensive architectural construction documents with monthly subscription tiers ranging from $3,200 to $8,500 depending on the selected plan, alongside custom enterprise pricing structures.
Advanced Features and Future Updates
The second-generation software introduces substantial enhancements, allowing customers to initiate a project using a simple text description or sketch to generate blueprints across all building domains simultaneously, covering structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, interior design, and architecture. Version 2 permits continuous user modifications, where a single alteration automatically propagates across the entire project while undergoing validation against local building regulations.
Early adopters are already utilizing this upgraded version, which is scheduled for public release this week. Concurrently, development is underway for a third software iteration designed to incorporate advanced structural analysis and electrical panel design capabilities.
Human Oversight and Target Audience
The co-founders emphasize that the technology serves as an assistant rather than a replacement for licensed architects. Certified professionals maintain complete oversight by reviewing the documentation and applying their professional seals prior to permit submission, ensuring human judgment remains central.
Blueprints AI directs its offerings toward two primary markets: professional architecture, engineering, and design firms, alongside developers and real estate property owners. The platform operates primarily through a subscription model, with potential future provisions for single-project flat-fee options.
