United States President Donald Trump recently indicated during a media interaction that Moscow has shown strong interest in taking part in the G-20 events scheduled across the country this year. While speaking with reporters at the White House, Trump responded positively when asked about the possibility of Russian President Vladimir Putin attending the upcoming international gathering. He remarked that he would gladly roll out the red carpet and welcome him should he choose to make the trip. Nevertheless, it remains uncertain whether the Russian leader will make a personal appearance or if an official representative will be dispatched on behalf of the Russian government.
The United States holds the official presidency for the G-20 in the year 2026, with major diplomatic events already lined up on the calendar. United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to host the G-20 foreign ministers meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, scheduled for October 30 and 31. Following that event, the main leaders summit will take place on December 14 and 15 at Trump National Doral in Miami, Florida, where heads of state from member nations are expected to congregate. Both Russia and India are integral members of this multilateral bloc. India previously hosted a successful summit of the group in New Delhi back in September 2023.
On the diplomatic front regarding strategic arms, Trump expressed a desire to pursue a nuclear weapons agreement involving both Russia and China. At the same time, he acknowledged that realizing such a pact within the current calendar year appears unlikely. These remarks suggest that Washington remains open to engaging in dialogue with both nations concerning nuclear security matters.
When the conversation shifted toward the ongoing conflict and reporters questioned whether Trump remembered that the war was initiated by Putin, he replied that he is fully aware of the situation and will disclose relevant details at an appropriate juncture. Trump emphasized that bringing a swift halt to the bloodshed remains his foremost priority. He pointed out that the conflict claims an average of roughly 25,000 soldiers every month, with casualties touching 32,000 just the previous month. Addressing queries regarding any restrictions on Ukraine's use of Starshield technology, Trump firmly stated that the United States has not implemented any such measures.
