While delivering his address, Sharif asserted claims regarding Pakistan's supposed success during the conflict and attributed the de-escalation of hostilities to intervention by US President Donald Trump. He stated that timely intervention by US President Donald Trump played a crucial role in preventing further escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. Praising the American president's leadership, the Pakistani prime minister asserted that this involvement had helped safeguard millions of lives across South Asia. The mention coincided with comments made earlier in the week at the UNGA, where Trump also referred to his involvement in halting the India-Pakistan hostilities.
Disputed Narratives Surrounding Operation Sindoor
In addition to discussing external mediation, Sharif praised the Pakistani military hierarchy and repeatedly mentioned Field Marshal Asim Munir, thanking him several times during the speech for creating space for diplomatic efforts under difficult circumstances. Pakistan's presentation of the 2025 confrontation remains starkly contrary to India's position. India has consistently dismissed any narrative of Pakistani triumph regarding Operation Sindoor. During discussions at the UNGA in 2025, Indian representatives had pointed out that visual evidence and operational realities from the ground during Operation Sindoor told an entirely different story from Pakistan's victory claims. Beyond the military confrontation, Sharif also used the international stage to bring up the Kashmir issue and raise objections concerning the Indus Waters Treaty.
India Issues Firm Right of Reply at the Assembly
India delivered an official and uncompromising response to Sharif's speech through its First Secretary, Petal Gahlot. Exercising India's right of reply, Gahlot called on Pakistan to cease its support for terrorism, pointing out that 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden was discovered hiding near a premier military academy inside Pakistan. She criticized Pakistan for perpetuating extremism, duplicity, and state-sponsored terror networks.
Addressing the remarks on Kashmir, Gahlot reaffirmed that Jammu and Kashmir remains an integral and inalienable part of India. She urged Pakistan to look inward and address the rights and conditions of the population living in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) rather than raising unsubstantiated claims on global platforms. Gahlot also issued a clear reminder that India reserves the right to defend itself if cross-border terrorism continues, emphasizing that such actions carry consequences.
