Donald Trump disclosed on Monday, in a post on Truth Social, that Iran had itself requested the meeting, which would be held on Tuesday in Doha. While Trump confirmed the talks would take place, he shared no information about what specific issues would be on the agenda.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News that special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who is also Trump's son-in-law, would travel to Doha this week. The purpose of the trip is to advance discussions around a memorandum of understanding that both sides had recently signed.
White House Is Clear: Violence Will Be Met With Violence
Karoline Leavitt laid out the American position without any ambiguity. She stated:
As far as we are concerned, we are honoring the ceasefire. Violence will be met with violence.She added that Iran had attacked commercial ships and that the United States had responded in line with the President's directives.
US Airstrikes Follow Iranian Attacks on Hormuz Shipping
Last week, US military forces launched airstrikes against Iranian targets. These strikes were described as a direct response to Tehran's attacks on vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime corridor through which one-fifth of the world's entire crude oil supply is transported.
Iran Fires Drones and Missiles at Bahrain and Kuwait
Iran said it launched drone and missile attacks targeting Bahrain and Kuwait on Sunday. On that same day, an American official told local media that both sides would refrain from taking action against each other for the time being and that ships could move freely through the waterway.
