Voters preparing to exercise their franchise in the parliamentary elections will no longer need to speculate about long waiting lines at their designated voting locations. A newly developed digital solution has been put into service to offer real-time awareness of crowd conditions at polling stations. Through this technological setup, electors can check the exact queue status right from their handheld devices, helping them choose the most opportune time to step out and cast their ballots.
Developed by National Informatics Centre Haryana
The system has been conceptualized and built by the Haryana wing of the National Informatics Centre. Titled Voters-in-Queue, the service is accessible both as an application for handheld devices and via an online portal hosted at www.eqmshry.nic.in. It marks the first occasion in the country where such a crowd-tracking mechanism is being utilized as a pilot project during an active election cycle to ease the voting process for citizens.
Ground Training for Booth Level Officers
To ensure that the digital tool operates smoothly throughout voting day, field personnel have received operational instructions. In Karnal district, Booth Level Officers have gone through detailed training modules to understand data entry and verification requirements on the app. Kamal Tyagi, Joint Director at the National Informatics Centre, confirmed that the platform received clearance from the Haryana State Election Commission and also secured operational approval as an experimental measure from the Election Commission of India.
Step-by-Step Procedure for Elector Access
Using the interface involves a straightforward authentication protocol designed for ordinary electors. Users log onto the portal or mobile application and input basic identifying specifics, such as their regional locality, designated voting booth name, and registered voter identity details. The portal immediately delivers a one-time password to verify the user. Once authenticated, the user connects directly to the digital channel managed by the Booth Level Officer posted at that location.
The on-ground personnel are tasked with logging current waiting figures into the system at recurring intervals of thirty minutes to one hour. Because the line count is refreshed so frequently, voters can track whether a crowd surge is thinning out before leaving their residences. This dynamic visibility eliminates the fatigue of standing under harsh weather for extended durations, transforming how people plan their voting schedule.
Pilot Footprint Across Haryana Constituencies
The initial trial rollout spans approximately two and a half dozen assembly constituencies across the state. The territories designated for this testing phase encompass Karnal, Gurugram, Rohtak, Bahadurgarh, Kaithal, Jhajjar, Rewari, Narnaul, Nuh, Palwal, Faridabad, and Badkhal. Furthermore, the system covers Panchkula, Ambala Cantt, Ambala City, Yamunanagar, Thanesar, Panipat, and Sonipat constituencies.
Authorities intend to review the performance data gathered during this trial run. If the platform achieves its operational objectives, officials plan to expand its deployment statewide across all assembly seats in future electoral rounds. Local residents have responded enthusiastically to the initiative, noting that live tracking saves valuable hours, reduces congestion at critical hours, and provides a smoother experience for working professionals and senior citizens alike.
