Hyundai Motor India has officially confirmed the powertrain details for its upcoming compact SUV, the Hyundai Bayon. The company has clarified that this model will launch in India exclusively with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. Diesel and turbo-petrol options have not been announced at this stage. The debut of the Bayon in India is scheduled for October 26, 2026, which is when the official pricing details are also expected to be revealed.
Booking and Delivery Details
Bookings for the SUV are currently open online and through authorized dealerships with a token amount of 11,000 rupees. Deliveries are scheduled to begin during the upcoming festive season. This SUV will be positioned between the Venue and the Creta in the company lineup. It will come equipped with modern features such as a generative AI voice assistant, connected car technology, and a digital cockpit that help it stand out in its segment.
Engine Specifications and Transmission
The Hyundai Bayon will house a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated MPi petrol engine under the hood. This motor produces 115 PS of power and 144 Nm of torque. The exact same engine is also utilized in the Hyundai Creta. Transmission choices for the vehicle include a 6-speed manual gearbox and Hyundai's Intelligent Variable Transmission, which functions as a CVT automatic. Since there will be no diesel powertrain available at launch, buyers looking for a diesel SUV will need to explore other options within the segment.
AI-Powered Voice Assistant and Features
The Hyundai Bayon is being positioned as an Intelligent Utility Vehicle. Its standout highlight is the generative AI-powered voice assistant, making it the first model from Hyundai in India to feature this technology. The system leverages intelligence from Perplexity and voice technology developed by SoundHound AI. It can comprehend conversational queries effortlessly. Users can retrieve weather updates, plan trips, search for hotels and restaurants, locate shopping destinations, and check sports updates using voice commands.
Additionally, the system features over 500 embedded voice commands that operate completely offline without requiring an internet connection. This utility is accessible in English, Hindi, Hinglish, Tamil, Bengali, and Telugu. The cabin features a digital cockpit outfitted with dual curved 12.3-inch displays, where one screen serves as the instrument cluster and the other handles infotainment duties.
The NVIDIA-accelerated Connected Car Navigation Cockpit supports online navigation, split-screen layouts, and quick shortcuts. Meanwhile, Hyundai Bluelink offers over 70 connected features covering remote functions, vehicle status checks, location services, navigation, and compatibility with both smartphones and smartwatches. The interface supports 10 regional and two international languages. Over-the-air software updates will be supported for up to 19 controllers, allowing numerous updates to be applied without requiring a visit to a dealership.
Pricing Expectations and Market Rivals
The complete variant lineup, exact pricing, and remaining details are anticipated to be revealed on October 26, 2026. Market estimates suggest an expected price range hovering between 9.79 lakh and 15.49 lakh rupees. Upon its arrival in the market, it will compete directly against established SUVs such as the Tata Nexon and Maruti Brezza.
