Mercedes-Benz is set to accelerate its electric vehicle offensive in India with the official rollout of the new GLC Electric SUV on November 4, 2026. Taking the completely knocked down route, the luxury electric vehicle will be assembled locally at the brand's production facility in Chakan near Pune. Arriving in showrooms barely six months after its global debut, this milestone marks the fastest local assembly turnaround for any vehicle in the company's domestic operational history. Pre-bookings for prospective buyers will open in the first week of October, with customer deliveries kicking off exclusively with the GLC 400 4-Matic variant.
Powertrain Specifications, Acceleration and Range
Underneath the sculpted bodywork lies a high-capacity 94 kWh NMC battery pack paired with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration. This setup allows the SUV to deliver a certified driving range of up to 715 kilometres on a single charge under the WLTP test cycle. Even with an unladen curb weight hovering near 2.5 tonnes, the electric machine sprints from zero to 100 km/h in an impressive 4.3 seconds before topping out at an electronically governed 210 km/h. Together, the dual electric motors produce a substantial output of roughly 489 to 490 bhp and 800 Nm of torque. Projected to retail between Rs 80 lakh and Rs 90 lakh (ex-showroom), the zero-emission variant will be sold in tandem with the conventional internal combustion engine GLC.
Dimensions and Modern Exterior Styling
Aesthetic updates showcase a contemporary corporate design language characterized by an illuminated front grille flanked by intricate star-pattern LED lighting signatures. At the rear, star-shaped LED taillights are connected seamlessly through a striking gloss-black decorative strip. The chassis features a standard 2,972 mm wheelbase, as the elongated wheelbase variant developed for China will not be offered to Indian buyers. In terms of overall dimensions, the SUV measures 4,845 mm in length, 1,913 mm in width, and stands 1,644 mm tall. Standard equipment also includes rear-wheel steering, which significantly sharpens urban maneuverability by reducing the turning radius at lower speeds.
Hyperscreen Cockpit, Cargo Utility and 800V Charging
Inside the cabin, the primary highlight is the monolithic 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen panel, an expansive glass housing that merges the digital instrument cluster, central multimedia touchscreen, and an independent passenger display. Powered by an intelligent AI assistant, the interface is complemented by the welcome return of tactile physical buttons and rotary dials across the steering wheel and center console. Cargo volume stands at 570 litres under the rear hatch, expanding up to 1,740 litres with the second row folded flat, alongside dedicated front luggage storage space.
The underlying electrical foundation utilizes an advanced 800-volt architecture capable of handling 330 kW DC fast charging speeds. When plugged into a compatible high-power station, the battery replenishes from 10 to 80 percent in merely 22 minutes, with a rapid 10-minute hookup restoring roughly 300 kilometres of travel range. Supported by cutting-edge advanced driver assistance systems and rigid chassis engineering, the newcomer is poised to rival formidable competitors such as the BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase in the luxury EV space.
