Kia India is set to expand its domestic vehicle portfolio with the introduction of its very first mass-market hybrid car, the Kia Sorento Hybrid, on September 4. Local production of the premium SUV is already underway at the automaker's Anantapur manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh, and pre-orders have been accepted for some time. The upcoming launch event will officially unveil the complete trim breakdown alongside exact pricing details. Upon release, the new offering will enter a competitive segment featuring rivals such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron, Toyota Fortuner, and MG Majester.

Because the Sorento is being assembled locally in India, industry analysts expect competitive pricing in the range of Rs 35 lakh to Rs 45 lakh (ex-showroom). The Sorento nameplate already enjoys wide international popularity. For the Indian market, Kia is expected to offer both hybrid and traditional diesel powertrain options. Notably, the hybrid variant is slated to feature an all-wheel drive (AWD) setup, marking the first time Kia has offered AWD technology on a hybrid model in India.

Under the hood, the Sorento Hybrid combines a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor to generate a combined output of approximately 238 hp and 380 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with available AWD functionality. Meanwhile, buyers seeking a conventional diesel setup will have access to a 2.2-litre engine capable of delivering around 202 hp and 441 Nm of peak torque. According to WLTP rating standards, the hybrid setup achieves a fuel efficiency of roughly 14 to 15 km/l, promising strong range for Indian driving conditions.
