Kia India is preparing to expand its footprint in the premium SUV segment by introducing its first hybrid vehicle in the Indian market, the Kia Sorento Hybrid. Positioned above the Seltos, this three-row family SUV will directly compete with established rivals such as the Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra XUV700, and Tata Safari. Select dealerships have already begun accepting unofficial bookings for the vehicle at an initial token amount of Rs 25,000.
Launch Timeline and Expected Pricing
The Kia Sorento Hybrid aims to offer Indian buyers a spacious, feature-rich, and fuel-efficient alternative in the premium category. The official commercial launch of the SUV is expected to take place between September and October 2026, or towards the end of the year. In terms of positioning, the estimated ex-showroom price for the Sorento Hybrid is projected to fall between Rs 28 lakh and Rs 35 lakh. Following its success in global markets, Kia intends to leverage this hybrid powertrain to capture eco-conscious buyers looking for high performance.
Exterior Design and Dimensions
Visually, the Sorento Hybrid commands a strong road presence with an upright boxy stance and Kia's signature tiger-nose grille. The exterior design incorporates sharp LED headlamps and sleek rear tail lights, giving it a distinctive aesthetic. Measuring approximately 4.8 meters in length, the SUV features exact dimensions of 4815 mm in length, 1900 mm in width, and a wheelbase of 2815 mm. These generous proportions ensure ample cabin space across both 6-seater and 7-seater seating configurations.

Inside the cabin, the Sorento Hybrid comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of modern technology and luxury amenities. The dashboard features dual 12.3-inch displays for the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system. Additional interior highlights include a panoramic sunroof, premium leather upholstery, front ventilated seats, a Bose audio system, wireless charging, multi-zone climate control, and KIA Connect suite. The 6-seater variant is expected to offer individual captain seats in the second row. For occupant safety, the vehicle includes a Level-2 ADAS suite featuring adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist, alongside a 360-degree camera system and multiple airbags.
Powertrain Options and Mileage Efficiency
Globally, the Kia Sorento Hybrid is powered by a 1.6-liter turbo-petrol hybrid powertrain mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, delivering a combined output of approximately 227 HP and 350 Nm of torque. For the Indian market, a 1.5-liter hybrid unit may also be introduced. The SUV is expected to be offered in Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) as well as potential All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variants. The claimed fuel economy is estimated at around 14 to 15 km per liter, providing superior mileage efficiency compared to conventional diesel counterparts in this size class.
