Indian automotive major Mahindra & Mahindra is preparing to deepen its footprint in international markets with ambitious export plans centered around its newly showcased Scorpio Lifestyler pickup truck, which has been engineered to cater to both domestic and overseas buyers.
According to Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO of the auto and farm sector at Mahindra, the Lifestyler is likely to be introduced in key regions such as South Africa, Australia, the Middle East, and Latin America. The company is also evaluating the launch of this pickup in select ASEAN countries. Currently, Mahindra has a presence in the ASEAN region solely through Indonesia, making the new pickup a strategic vehicle to expand its footprint into neighboring markets.
Scheduled Launch in India by April 2027
Domestically, the pickup is anticipated to hit the Indian market under the name Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler in April 2027. Meanwhile, in international territories, it will be marketed simply as the Mahindra Lifestyler. The manufacturer emphasized that the vehicle was developed from its inception on a dedicated global platform.
Targeting the Lifestyle and Adventure Segment
Mahindra envisions this pickup extending well beyond traditional commercial utility. The company is positioning it for consumers who enjoy camping, traveling, and outdoor activities requiring luggage transportation. Potential buyers range from coffee plantation owners to families and groups embarking on outdoor adventure trips.
Already Witnessing Surge in Export Growth
The push into global markets builds upon an already rising export trajectory. Mahindra's automotive exports reached 41,030 vehicles in 2025-26, marking an 18.2 percent increase compared to 34,709 vehicles in the previous year. The company already retails SUVs in markets including Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, Africa, and South America.
Rapid Expansion in the Electric Vehicle Sector
Alongside its conventional lineup, Mahindra has experienced rapid growth in its electric vehicle segment. During 2025-26, the company retailed 57,472 electric vehicles, a sharp rise from 14,183 units a year prior. Electric vehicles now account for approximately 12 percent of the brand's total SUV sales. Combined with the upcoming rollout of the Scorpio Lifestyler, this surging export volume and expanding EV business are poised to accelerate Mahindra's global growth strategy.
