A major recovery of gold occurred late at night along the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in the Kannauj district of Uttar Pradesh following a road accident. A speeding vehicle collided with a police van that was returning from Kanwar Yatra security duty. Upon searching the crashed automobile, police personnel discovered a bag containing multiple gold bars, prompting immediate alerts across law enforcement and administrative departments.
Discovery of Gold Bars During Vehicle Inspection
The collision took place within the jurisdiction of the Talgram police station on the expressway. Police officers returning late at night from their deployment along the Kanwar Yatra route were struck by the high-speed car. Taking precautions after the crash, officers conducted an inspection of the vehicle, which led to the discovery of a suspicious bag kept inside. Opening the bag revealed 10 gold biscuits with an estimated weight of around 10 kilograms.
Customs Officials and Goldsmith Summoned for Verification
Recognizing the sensitivity of the situation, the on-duty police team immediately notified senior district officials. To verify the legal documentation, source, and legitimacy of the gold, a team from the Customs Department was dispatched to the location. Simultaneously, a local goldsmith was called to test the purity of the metal and determine its exact mass. Police have taken two young men into custody who were travelling in the car, and questioning is underway to gather further details.
