Toyota has officially introduced the 9th Gen Hilux in the Indian automotive market, marking the most substantial product update for the lifestyle pickup truck to date. The upgraded model arrives with a refreshed entry price tag of ₹31.99 lakh (ex-showroom), with the fully equipped top-spec variant priced at ₹36.69 lakh. In a major shift in strategy, Toyota has introduced a 4×2 drive option for the first time on the Hilux while completely discontinuing the manual transmission, making a 6-speed automatic gearbox standard across the entire lineup.
Restyled Exterior and Feature-Rich Interior
The updated Hilux showcases a sharper and more aggressive stance upfront. Visual changes include slim LED headlamps accompanied by revised daytime running lights (DRLs) and an imposing honeycomb grille. Positioned prominently at the center of the grille is prominent TOYOTA lettering. A redesigned bumper, a rugged front skid plate, and new 17-inch alloy wheels give the pickup a modern profile, while the rear gets updated LED tail lamps alongside a practical cargo bed step for easy access.
Inside the cabin, Toyota has significantly bolstered the equipment list to offer a more comfortable experience. Dominating the dashboard is a new 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additional interior amenities comprise a digital driver instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, an 8-speaker audio setup, a wireless phone charger, connected car tech, and a PM 2.5 air filter designed to maintain cabin air quality.
Engine Specifications and Drivetrain Configuration
Under the hood, performance duties continue to be handled by the familiar 2.8-liter turbo-diesel engine, which generates 204 hp of power and 500 Nm of torque. The core transmission change sees the elimination of manual shifting, with power routed exclusively through a 6-speed automatic transmission. Furthermore, buyers looking for a lifestyle truck for city or highway commuting without heavy off-road demands can now opt for the newly introduced 4×2 variant, while traditional off-road enthusiasts retain the 4×4 option.
Variant Pricing, Safety Equipment, and Deliveries
The variant lineup and ex-showroom pricing for the 9th Gen Toyota Hilux are structured as follows
- GX 4×2 AT: ₹31.99 lakh
- GX 4×4 AT: ₹33.69 lakh
- VX 4×4 AT: ₹36.69 lakh
While the introduction of the automatic-only lineup means the entry price is higher compared to the outgoing model, the price increment on the top-end VX trim has been kept modest. On the safety and convenience front, the pickup is outfitted with 7 airbags, a 360-degree camera system, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and parking sensors. Convenience features such as cruise control, selectable drive modes, and tailgate assist further enhance everyday usability. Deliveries for the updated Toyota Hilux are scheduled to commence in the second week of August.
