Renault India has rolled out an updated version of its popular hatchback, the Kwid, with prices starting at ₹4.53 lakh (ex-showroom). Good news for buyers hunting for a new car within a ₹5 lakh budget: this refreshed Kwid keeps its overall design largely the same but brings meaningful upgrades to safety and features, positioning it to go head-to-head with the Maruti Alto K10, Maruti Celerio, Maruti S-Presso and Tata Tiago.
A big step up in safety
The standout change is on the safety front. The new Kwid now comes with 6 airbags, a feature that was missing from the model earlier. In the budget hatchback segment, where safety equipment is often a sore point, this upgrade is being seen as a significant relief for buyers. Renault has also given the car a fresh logo and new-design wheels, giving it a slightly updated look on the outside.
A long features list
On the features front, the new Kwid gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also comes with a digital instrument cluster, a rear parking camera, remote keyless entry, electrically adjustable ORVMs, rear power windows, LED tail lights and roof rails. Practicality hasn't been ignored either, the car offers 184mm of ground clearance and a 279-litre boot, making it a suitable option for both city driving and rougher roads.
Same engine, but the CNG option remains
There's no change under the hood. The new Kwid continues with the same 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine producing 67bhp of power and 91Nm of torque. Buyers can choose between a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT. For those who want a CNG version, Renault continues to offer an official CNG retrofitment option priced at ₹70,449.
Just two variants, with prices already fixed
The new Kwid is currently available in only two variants, Evolution and Climber. The entry-level variant is priced at ₹4.53 lakh (ex-showroom), while the top-spec Climber costs ₹5.15 lakh. However, customers who book online can get the Climber MT variant for ₹4.99 lakh and the AMT variant for ₹5.46 lakh, meaning there's a small saving on offer for online bookings.
