The Indian two-wheeler sector registered a significant shift in leadership during July 2026 as TVS Motor Company climbed to the top spot in the domestic scooter market for the first time. TVS achieved total monthly sales of 2,56,675 units across the country, overtaking long-standing market leader Honda, which recorded 2,33,337 units during the same period.
Market Share Realignment and Industry Expansion
TVS posted a robust 40 percent year-on-year growth compared to July 2025, lifting its total market share to 32 percent. In contrast, Honda experienced a 12 percent decline in monthly volume, causing its market share to drop from 41 percent down to 29 percent. The overall scooter industry expanded significantly in July 2026, reaching total sales of 7,98,190 units, which represents a 24 percent increase over the previous year. Electric scooters played a pivotal role in this market expansion, accounting for 21 percent of all scooters sold during the month.
Segment-Wise Performance for TVS and Honda
The gain in market position for TVS was supported by steady demand across both internal combustion engine and electric models. The company's petrol lineup, consisting of the Jupiter, Ntorq, and Zest, registered combined sales of 1,97,289 units. In the electric category, TVS models iQube and Orbiter contributed 59,386 units, representing a 158 percent increase in electric volume. Conversely, Honda remained heavily dependent on its petrol offerings such as the Activa and Dio, where market demand softened. Honda dispatched just 1,264 electric units during the month, leaving a gap in its electric lineup that benefited competing manufacturers.
Performance of Suzuki, Hero MotoCorp, and Bajaj Auto
Suzuki secured the third spot among scooter manufacturers by selling 1,20,998 units in July 2026, achieving a 28 percent growth rate supported by consistent demand for models like the Access. Hero MotoCorp claimed fourth place after delivering 61,347 units, marking a 33 percent year-on-year increase. Bajaj Auto finished in fifth position with 48,684 units sold, registering a 301 percent jump in sales driven almost entirely by consumer adoption of its Chetak electric scooter.
Sales Figures for Remaining Scooter Manufacturers
Other two-wheeler manufacturers also reported their sales figures for July 2026. Yamaha recorded total monthly sales of 36,783 units. Electric vehicle brand Ather Energy dispatched 31,044 units during the month. Emerging electric maker River Indie registered 6,039 units, while Piaggio completed the monthly sales tally with 3,283 units delivered.
