The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a major welfare measure aimed at senior women across the state. In a key cabinet decision, authorities have cleared a proposal to provide completely free bus travel for women aged 60 years and above. Coming right ahead of the Raksha Bandhan festival, this move is being hailed as a major gift for women, ensuring seamless and cost-free travel for millions of elderly citizens in the region.
Lokmata Ahilyabai Matrishakti Yojana Approved
The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, where a total of 24 proposals were cleared, including the Lokmata Ahilyabai Matrishakti Yojana. Under this newly approved scheme, women aged 60 and above will be entitled to lifelong free travel across all categories of buses operated by the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC). Officials estimate that more than 1 crore women across the state will directly benefit from this transport facility.
Valid Identification Required for Free Rides
To avail of this complimentary bus service, eligible women will need to present an approved identity proof to verify their age and residency. Authorities have designated the Aadhaar card and voter ID card as valid documents for this purpose. By showing either of these IDs, senior female passengers can board state transport buses without paying any ticket fare.
