Uttar Pradesh has taken a decisive step toward integrating its high-speed highway grid after the state cabinet gave formal clearance to four major link expressway projects. The decision came during a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday, where a total of 22 policy proposals were approved. The flagship initiative focuses on tying together distinct corridors into a single seamless travel grid. Once operational, the new links will bridge the Agra-Lucknow, Bundelkhand, Purvanchal, and Ganga expressways, substantially streamlining private travel, freight logistics, and industrial supply lines across the state.
Breakdown of the Four Approved Link Corridors
The state aims to turn disjointed expressways into an integrated super-network. The specific routes, dimensions, and financial allocations cleared include
- Agra-Lucknow to Purvanchal Link Expressway: Spanning an estimated length of 51 kilometres, this project carries a projected cost of Rs 4,776 crore. By directly linking the Agra-Lucknow Expressway to the Purvanchal Expressway, the road creates a rapid bypass between western and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Crucially, it relieves heavy transport vehicles from having to navigate congested municipal roads inside Lucknow city.
- Farrukhabad Link Expressway: Measuring roughly 91 kilometres in length, this corridor involves an estimated outlay of Rs 7,489 crore. Beginning near Etawah on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, the route traverses Farrukhabad to merge with the Ganga Expressway near Hardoi. Authorities have set an ambitious completion deadline of one and a half years for this section.
- Jhansi Link Expressway: Covering approximately 115 kilometres, this corridor is designed to connect Jhansi directly into the Bundelkhand Expressway. The link is expected to spur commercial development throughout the Bundelkhand division while unlocking faster transit routes to the Jhansi defence industrial corridor and prominent cultural sites like Orchha.
- Jewar Link Expressway: Extending around 74 kilometres, this strategic route is planned to integrate the upcoming Noida International Airport with both the Yamuna Expressway and the Ganga Expressway. The roadway will establish direct commercial linkages for passenger transit and cargo movement from western hubs right through to Purvanchal.
EPC Execution Model and Delivery Timelines
All four link expressway projects will be constructed following the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) execution format. Under the contractual terms of this framework, contracting agencies will bear mandatory operational responsibility for maintaining and repairing the carriageways for five years following the completion of physical construction. The government has set a definitive deadline of three years to fully execute and commission the link expressway network.
