The quiet morning in Bihar's Supaul district was shattered by sudden gunfire on Tuesday, leaving a young man fighting for his life. In a brazen display of lawlessness, unidentified armed assailants ambushed and shot a 20-year-old in broad daylight. The violent attack has sparked widespread panic across the area, raising serious concerns about the safety of ordinary citizens on rural roads and the audacity of local criminals.
Ambushed on the Journey Home
The victim has been identified as Ranjit Kumar Yadav, the 20-year-old son of Bhumi Yadav. He is a resident of Gaurgarh Ward 5, an area that falls under the jurisdiction of the Supaul Sadar police station. According to the sequence of events provided by his family, Ranjit had traveled to his maternal uncle's house in Jhadkaha village, located within the Ratauli panchayat of the Pipra police station area, on Monday evening. He stayed there overnight, entirely unaware of the danger awaiting him the next day.
The brutal incident unfolded on Tuesday morning as Ranjit began his journey back home to Gaurgarh. As he was passing near the Jhadkaha canal, criminals who had already set up an ambush intercepted him. Giving him no opportunity to escape or defend himself, the attackers opened fire indiscriminately. During the barrage of bullets, one struck Ranjit directly in the chest. The severe impact caused him to collapse onto the blood-stained street while the shooters fled the scene.
Locals Rush Victim to the Hospital
The loud sound of gunshots echoing through the vicinity immediately alerted nearby residents and passersby. People rushed toward the canal to see what had happened and found the young man writhing in pain on the ground. Acting swiftly, the local villagers picked up the critically injured youth and rushed him to the nearest medical facility, the Pipra Community Health Center, in a desperate bid to save his life.
Upon his arrival at the community health center, the on-duty doctors immediately administered first aid. However, seeing the excessive blood loss and the critical nature of the chest wound, the medical staff realized that they were not equipped to handle the emergency. They referred him to the Sadar Hospital in Supaul. Realizing the gravity of the situation, Ranjit’s frantic family members decided to bypass the government facility and admitted him to Anant Prerna Hospital, a private medical center in the city, to secure advanced treatment. He remains under strict medical observation, where his condition is described as highly delicate.
Police Launch Manhunt and Scan CCTV
Following the shocking violence, the Pipra police mobilized a team and arrived at the crime scene near the canal. Officers immediately secured the area and began a thorough inspection. The investigating team has started questioning local residents and potential eyewitnesses to gather clues about the attackers' identities and their mode of transport.

Taking note of the severity of the daylight shooting, Sadar Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajiv Ranjan personally visited Anant Prerna Hospital. He checked on the victim's medical status and interacted with the grieving family members to assure them of a rigorous probe. The DSP stated that the local police are examining the case from all possible angles.
While the exact motive behind the targeted assassination attempt remains unclear at this early stage, the officer expressed confidence that the culprits would be identified and apprehended very soon.
