A shocking case concerning human trafficking and the alleged sale of a newborn infant has come to light from Motihari, the district headquarters of East Champaran in Bihar. Law enforcement agencies have busted a suspected syndicate involved in the illegal trade of newborns, resulting in the arrest of eight individuals. The major crackdown has created significant ripples across the local region as authorities deepen their investigation.
Joint Team Operation
The operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs regarding the alleged buying and selling of a newborn in the Pakridayal area of Motihari. A joint team comprising local police, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, and the Special Task Force swung into action based on confidential tips. Acting on this information, the teams intercepted an ambulance and an Alto car near the Chaurma Kothi market for a thorough inspection.
Discovery in the Ambulance
During the search of the intercepted vehicles, a woman was found inside the ambulance accompanied by a newborn infant. Subsequent questioning by officers revealed direct links to the illicit trade of the infant. Alongside the suspects, the operation yielded significant material evidence, including Rs 1,12,000 in cash, the ambulance, the Alto car, and a total of nine mobile phones recovered from the scene.
Identities of the Accused
The eight detained suspects comprise both male and female participants allegedly operating within the syndicate. According to police records, the arrested individuals include Gautam Kumar, Chandan Ram, Chhotu Kumar, Kunal Kumar, and Guddu Kumar, alongside three women whose identities are part of the ongoing probe. Investigators are interrogating all eight suspects to unearth further details about the operation.
Call Detail Records Under Scrutiny
In-charge Sub-Divisional Police Officer Abhishek Kumar stated that the call detail records of the mobile phones seized from the accused are currently being analyzed. Investigators hope this technical data will help expose other members connected to the syndicate and reveal the true extent of the trafficking network operating in the area.
