A newly married couple in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district has died in mysterious circumstances just four months after their wedding, with husband and wife found hanging in separate rooms of their home. The deaths have left the entire neighbourhood in shock and triggered a bitter dispute between the two families over what really happened. The incident took place in Ward No. 10 of Nariyar Navada village under the Motipur police station area.
Married in March, Not Even Four Months In
The deceased have been identified as Anjali and her husband Vijay Sahni. The couple had married in March this year, meaning they were still short of completing four months of marriage. According to relatives, Anjali had been unwell for the past few days and had gone to stay at her parents' home while she recovered. Vijay used to visit her there from time to time, and he too had travelled to Nariyar Navada on Sunday to see his wife.
Mother Stepped Out After Dinner, Returned to a Nightmare
Family members say that on Sunday night, only Anjali's mother was present at home. She served dinner to both her daughter and son-in-law before stepping out briefly for some work. When she returned a short while later, she found both Anjali and Vijay hanging by a dupatta in separate rooms of the house. The discovery sent the family into panic and word of the deaths spread quickly through the village. Police were alerted and reached the spot soon after, sending both bodies to SKMCH for post-mortem examination.
Husband's Family Alleges Murder
Following the deaths, Vijay's relatives levelled serious allegations against Anjali's family. They claimed that even if Anjali had taken her own life, their son Vijay was subsequently murdered, and they are demanding a thorough and impartial investigation to establish the truth.
Anjali's Mother Denies the Charge
Anjali's mother, Sheela Devi, rejected the murder allegations outright. She said everything had appeared normal through the day, that her daughter had been called home only because she was unwell, and that her son-in-law Vijay used to visit her every single day. Speaking with visible emotion, she said, "We sold two kathas of land to get our daughter married. How could anyone kill their own daughter and son-in-law?" Her words underline just how devastated the family has been left by the tragedy.
Police Say Every Angle Is Being Probed
SDPO (West-1) Suchitra Kumari, who is overseeing the investigation, said police are examining the case from both the murder and suicide angles. A forensic (FSL) team has also collected evidence from the scene. She said the exact cause of death will only become clear once the post-mortem report and scientific examination are complete. Until then, speculation continues to swirl in the village, with both families standing firmly by their respective claims.
