In an effort to overhaul tourism and pilgrimage connectivity across the state, the Bihar administration has unveiled a comprehensive plan to construct a network of 20 ropeways. The announcement was made during the Bihar Investor Meet held at the Taj Hotel in the capital city. In the presence of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary revealed that instead of just a couple of isolated installations, the administration intends to roll out 20 separate ropeway links across various tourist and sacred hubs on a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
A 7 km Aerial Link Connecting Marine Drive to Hariharnath Temple
The centerpiece of this aerial transit blueprint is a proposed cable corridor spanning the Ganga River between Patna and Sonepur. Work on this landmark river crossing is scheduled to commence within the next 5 months. As per the project alignments, the aerial line will originate at the Marine Drive promenade in Patna and terminate directly at the revered Hariharnath Temple in Sonepur. Spanning a distance of approximately 7 kilometers, the overhead transit route will enable pilgrims, commuters, and travelers to traverse across the waters of the Ganga smoothly while avoiding existing highway detours and bottlenecks.
Prior Notice Given During the Shravani Mela Launch
The concept of connecting the capital city directly to Sonepur via an overhead cable car was first outlined roughly two months ago during the inauguration ceremony of the Shravani Mela. At that time, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary had shared initial details about routing the facility from the Patna Marine Drive straight to the temple premises in Sonepur. The primary goal driving this Ganga-spanning corridor remains the facilitation of rapid, safe, and comfortable movement for the massive influx of devotees and regional vacationers journeying between both banks.
Sultanganj to Aguwani Ghat to Receive Riverfront Cable Link
Riverfront aerial connectivity will also be expanded to eastern Bihar, with a similar ropeway installation planned in Bhagalpur district. Under this proposal, the famed Ajgaivinath Dham situated at Sultanganj will be linked directly to Aguwani Ganga Ghat on the opposite bank. Passing directly over the Ganga, this infrastructure project is designed to give pilgrims, tourists, and riverside communities an efficient alternate transit corridor to move between the two riverbanks without relying solely on ferries or surface bridges.
Stance on Migration and Creation of Dedicated Ropeway Entity
Addressing delegates at the investor gathering, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary touched upon outbound migration from Bihar. He remarked that native residents who have relocated elsewhere for skilled professional pursuits should continue serving their ancestral homeland from their respective places of work. However, he emphasized that if impoverished citizens and daily-wage laborers are compelled to migrate purely in search of basic livelihood, the administration bears the responsibility for that outcome. To oversee and accelerate these infrastructure ambitions across religious and cultural destinations, the state cabinet had already formally approved the incorporation of the Bihar State Ropeways Company Limited in July of this year.
