The suspects, who were part of her in-laws' family, were reportedly attempting to dispose of the evidence by conducting a hurried, clandestine cremation of the body. Local authorities intervened just in time, arriving at the scene to recover the partially burned remains and apprehend those responsible for the cover-up.

The incident occurred at Sharma Tola within ward number 6 of the Areraj police jurisdiction. Allegations suggest that the in-laws had been pressuring the woman for dowry, ultimately leading to her death. In an effort to erase all traces of the crime, the family members attempted to perform the last rites without notifying anyone or following proper procedures. Upon receiving intelligence about these suspicious activities, Areraj Station House Officer Pratyasha Kumari mobilized a police team and rushed to the location. Law enforcement officials successfully extinguished the burning pyre and secured the partially burned body.
