A sudden breach in an embankment has triggered extensive flooding across the Baikunthpur assembly constituency in Gopalganj district, inundating residential clusters and large agricultural tracts. Following the disaster, Bihar Education Minister and local MLA Mithilesh Tiwari toured the inundated belt to evaluate the ground reality. The minister visited several badly impacted villages, including Banjariya, Dumariya, and Gamhari, interacting directly with displaced villagers to assess their immediate grievances and safety requirements.
Community Kitchen Inspections and Relief Delivery
In response to the displacement caused by the rising waters, local authorities established community kitchens to provide cooked meals to stranded residents. Mithilesh Tiwari inspected these facilities and reviewed the nutritional quality and distribution mechanism of the food provided to victims. He instructed administrative officials on site to maintain an uninterrupted supply of adequate, hygienic food. The minister emphasized that any negligence in relief and rescue logistics during this crisis would result in strict administrative consequences.
Probe Ordered Over Allegations of Deliberate Breach
During the ministerial inspection, villagers raised serious allegations, stating that anti-social elements had intentionally cut through the embankment, allowing torrential waters to inundate the area with rapid intensity. Acknowledging the gravity of these claims, Mithilesh Tiwari assured the public that a high-level investigation would look into the circumstances surrounding the rupture. He affirmed that if any individuals are found culpable of damaging public infrastructure, strict legal actions will follow in accordance with regulatory norms.
Disciplinary Action Within 11 Hours and Crop Relief Focus
Addressing administrative accountability, the minister stated that the engineer responsible for the sector was suspended within just 11 hours of the embankment failure. Further institutional proceedings remain active to fix responsibility for any oversight or maintenance lapses that may have contributed to the disaster.
With standing crops submerged across vast acreages, agricultural losses remain widespread. Mithilesh Tiwari confirmed that he had spoken over the phone with Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary to expedite authorized compensation and state relief packages for impacted cultivators. He reiterated that the administration prioritizes rapid assistance, structured damage assessments, and the swift restoration of normalcy in the flood-hit villages.
