Efforts to connect young job seekers from Himachal Pradesh with international employment opportunities gathered momentum as Sarkaghat in Mandi district hosted its second major job fair within a span of just one and a half months. More than 1,500 candidates from Sarkaghat and neighboring localities gathered to participate in the screening process, aiming to secure technical positions abroad. A delegation of foreign engineers representing 12 overseas enterprises across the Middle East and the Gulf countries personally evaluated the technical abilities and practical competence of the applicants.
Bridging Global Manpower Needs and Regional Talent
The recruitment drive is being spearheaded by Sarkaghat-based social worker Chandramohan Sharma, who aims to help local youth find stable employment overseas. Sharma pointed out that while commercial enterprises abroad face an urgent need for skilled manpower, talented individuals in the region frequently miss out on such opportunities due to lack of exposure and appropriate professional channels. He took the initiative to personally coordinate with overseas employers and persuade them to conduct direct hiring drives locally, particularly because regular employment avenues within Himachal Pradesh remain scarce.
Milestones From the First Phase
This initiative builds upon the success of the first employment fair organized on August 14, where approximately 500 local candidates were selected for overseas roles. The initial contingent of those selected workers has already traveled abroad to take up their assignments. Encouraged by that positive outcome, the organizers held the second fair on Thursday, drawing an even larger turnout of aspiring professionals eager to build their careers overseas.
Technical Profiles and Salary Brackets
During the recruitment camp, technical evaluations and personal interviews were conducted for a wide array of trade profiles, including plumbers, mechanical technicians, computer operators, and electricians, among other operational designations. The visiting corporate panels have concluded the applicant assessments, and formal selection results will be made public in due course. Sharma confirmed that every candidate who clears the evaluation criteria will be facilitated with placement abroad. Selected personnel are slated to receive monthly compensation ranging between 40,000 and 80,000 rupees based on their specific roles and expertise.
Placement Destinations Across the Gulf
The successful candidates will be deployed across prominent Gulf and Middle Eastern economies. The primary work destinations include Kuwait and Dubai, along with wider project openings located in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, and Bahrain. For technical workers from the hill state, these direct contracts offer substantial financial growth and access to large-scale international commercial projects.
