A severe instance of medical negligence has surfaced at the Sadar Hospital in Jamui, Bihar, where two women died after their post-operative health deteriorated late at night. Both patients had recently undergone surgery and required urgent attention when complications arose. Their relatives desperately searched the hospital premises for the doctor assigned to duty, but Dr. Shalini Singh, who was officially scheduled for the night shift, was entirely missing from her post. When the frantic families reached her over the telephone to convey the critical state of the patients, she explicitly refused to arrive during the night, stating she would attend to them only in the morning and would dispatch her junior in the interim. Left without critical medical supervision, both women struggled through the night and passed away before dawn, sparking intense anger and protests from the grieving relatives.
Minister Shreyasi Singh Inspects Hospital and Confronts Management
Upon learning about the tragic deaths, Bihar Government Minister and local legislator Shreyasi Singh reached the Sadar Hospital to assess the situation directly. As nursing staff on duty attempted to justify the shortcomings, she reprimanded them sharply, questioning how medical professionals could display such blatant disregard for human lives. She confronted the hospital authorities over their failure to enforce accountability and discipline among the staff.
Addressing the Deputy Superintendent of the Jamui Sadar Hospital, Shreyasi Singh demanded an explanation as to why the assigned doctor was not immediately summoned if the condition of the post-surgery patients was turning critical. She stated that she would formally raise this issue with Health Minister Nishant Kumar and Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. Following her inspection, she met top district administrative officials to demand swift intervention.
SIT Formed as District Administration Steps In
Action began immediately after Shreyasi Singh apprised the District Magistrate of the chain of events. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was promptly set up to carry out a comprehensive probe into the matter. Jamui District Magistrate Naveen confirmed that the tragedy stems from outright negligence on the doctor's part, assuring that stern measures would be enforced against those responsible.
Unregistered Private Facility Exposed and Sealed
Further inquiry revealed an even more alarming dimension to the case. Despite drawing a government salary, Dr. Shalini Singh was running an independent private clinic under the name 'Matri Seva Sadan' in Jamui, directing her primary attention there. On the night of the incident, she had abandoned her assigned duty at the government hospital, leaving critical patients unattended to be present at her private establishment, directly contributing to the loss of two lives.
Officials conducted an immediate raid on Dr. Shalini Singh's private clinic, uncovering that the establishment was operating without any valid government registration. The facility consisted merely of six rooms, within which an operation theatre and a pathology laboratory were being operated without requisite regulatory approvals. Confronted with these grave violations, the administration moved quickly to shut down and seal the premises.
