A sensational murder case has come to light in the Kharik police station area of Naugachhia in Bihar's Bhagalpur district, where a man was abducted and killed over an illicit relationship. Investigation has revealed that the victim's wife conspired with her lover and his associates to eliminate her husband after he strongly objected to their affair. The perpetrators lured the man into a SUV under the pretext of work, strangled him inside the moving vehicle, and dumped his body into a river to destroy evidence. Police have arrested the victim's wife along with two accomplices based on technical evidence, while searches are ongoing to apprehend the main plotter who is currently absconding.
A Conspiracy Hatched From Hyderabad to Bhagalpur
According to police investigations, Anita Devi, the wife of the deceased Umesh Sharma, had been in an extra-marital relationship with a man named Pankaj Sharma for nearly five years. When Umesh Sharma discovered his wife's ongoing affair, he raised strong objections, leading to frequent marital discord between the couple. Determined to eliminate the opposition, Anita Devi and Pankaj Sharma devised a plan to murder Umesh. To execute the plot, Pankaj Sharma boarded a flight on August 5 from Hyderabad in Telangana and landed at Purnea Airport in Bihar.
Abduction Under the Pretext of Work and Murder in Transit
Upon arriving at Purnea Airport, Pankaj Sharma was picked up by two local associates, Mohammad Sohel and Mohammad Irfan, in a Scorpio SUV. The trio then drove directly to Naugachhia. As per the premeditated plan, they contacted Umesh Sharma and persuaded him to get into the vehicle under the guise of an assignment. The vehicle travelled from Naugachhia towards the Kursela route via Murli Bahiyar. En route, the assailants overpowered Umesh Sharma and strangled him to death inside the moving SUV. To dispose of the body, they drove towards Barari and cast the corpse into the Kari Kosi River before fleeing the area.
Body Recovered From the Kosi River
Following Umesh Sharma's sudden disappearance, his family approached the police and lodged a missing person report on August 6. Recognizing that the case involved suspicious circumstances beyond a standard missing persons report, the police initiated a scientific and technical inquiry. Electronic surveillance and call detail record analysis led investigators to focus their suspicion on Anita Devi. During questioning, the full details of the plot were uncovered. Search operations along the river route subsequently resulted in the recovery of Umesh Sharma's body from the Kosi River near Malkain Ghat under the Manihari police station jurisdiction in Katihar district.
Technical Evidence Unravels the Crime
Naugachhia SP Vaibhav Sharma stated that technical evidence and mobile location tracking played a decisive role in solving the case. Analysis of suspect phone records confirmed Pankaj Sharma's flight travel from Hyderabad to Purnea on August 5, followed by the movement of the vehicle through Naugachhia toward Kursela. Scientific findings and physical evidence gathered during the probe directly linked the suspects to the crime scene.
Three Arrested, Hunt On for Main Accused
Police have arrested three individuals in connection with the crime: the victim's wife Anita Devi, Mohammad Sohel (son of Mohammad Mustaq), and Mohammad Irfan (son of Mohammad Aziz). All three have been remanded to judicial custody. Meanwhile, the prime accused and lover, Pankaj Sharma, remains at large. Police teams are executing raids at several suspected hideouts to trace and arrest him. Investigators are also probing whether any additional individuals provided assistance in planning or executing the murder.
