A gut-wrenching incident in the Jheel Tola area of Purnia has exposed the stark indifference embedded within modern society. In an era where digital convenience is at our fingertips, one must ask: have our collective values truly withered? Is a mobile phone selfie now more precious than the life of a suffering innocent child? The images emerging from Purnia serve as a grim reminder of a societal reality that is hard to swallow. Amidst this callous display of apathy, the compassionate actions of Member of Parliament Pappu Yadav emerged as a ray of hope, ultimately saving a mother from the agony of losing her child and challenging the conscience of the onlookers.
A bleeding child ignored while the crowd takes selfies
The incident occurred near Jheel Tola, where a school-going student was struck down by a speeding motorcycle. The impact of the collision was catastrophic, leaving the child with a fractured skull and bleeding profusely on the asphalt. While the boy lay in agony, crying and writhing in pain, a significant crowd gathered around him. Regrettably, not a single individual from the assembly of passersby and locals stepped forward to transport the victim to a medical facility. Instead, people were busy pulling out their mobile devices to capture the scene, deeply preoccupied with taking selfies and recording videos of the tragedy as it unfolded.
Pappu Yadav offers comfort and rushes the boy to safety
During this chaotic scene, the convoy of MP Pappu Yadav, who was returning from Kasba, happened to pass by. Upon witnessing the massive crowd and the blood-soaked child, he could not bring himself to remain a mere spectator. Without hesitating for even a second, he lifted the innocent child into his arms. As he rushed toward the GMCH hospital, he kept speaking to the child, who was drifting in and out of consciousness, urging him to stay brave. He continuously comforted the boy, whispering, "Son, nothing will happen to you. Stay strong, I am here." During the transit, the MP personally alerted the hospital administration and the medical team to be prepared for the emergency.
The MP lashes out at the decline of human values
Once they reached the hospital, the medical staff immediately commenced treatment. Pappu Yadav's associates tracked down the child's relatives and brought them to the facility. Upon their arrival, the MP provided cash assistance to the victim's brother to help cover medication and treatment costs. According to the doctors, because of the timely medical intervention, the child is now out of danger. Following the event, the pain and frustration of Pappu Yadav were evident when he spoke to the media. With deep emotional distress, he recounted how they were returning from Kasba when they spotted the crowd. He expressed his disdain for the moral collapse of society, stating that people were taking selfies instead of saving a dying child. He lamented that humanity in the country is effectively dead, noting that whether it is an accident, a rape, or a drowning, the reflex of society is now to click a photo. He questioned whether one should even continue to live in such a hollow society.
