Armed assailants shot and killed a young man in the Didarganj police station area of Patna on the night of Friday, October 9, 2026. The violent incident took place in the Gulmahiyabag locality, triggering immediate panic across the neighbourhood. The deceased has been identified as Gulshan Kumar, son of Anil Singh, a resident of Sukulpur. Following the gunfire, family members and local residents rushed a critically injured Gulshan to a nearby private medical facility, where attending physicians pronounced him dead on arrival. The news of his demise led to immense grief among his family and sparked widespread outrage in the locality.
Tension Grips the Area Amid Ongoing Investigation
The late-night murder in Gulmahiyabag has raised serious concerns regarding public safety in the region. At present, the precise motive behind the deadly shooting and the identities of the attackers remain unconfirmed, posing a significant challenge for law enforcement agencies tasked with resolving the case. Locally, Gulshan Kumar was recognized for his motorcycle riding on the Kacchi Dargah Bidupur six-lane stretch. He had also gained popularity in the area through videos related to bike riding and stunt performances. However, authorities have not confirmed whether his riding activities were linked to the fatal attack, noting that the actual reason will only emerge through a thorough police investigation.
Highway Blockade and Protests on National Highway 30
Enraged by the killing, relatives and local residents took to the streets to demand swift justice. Protesters placed Gulshan's body across the Patna National Highway NH30 in the Shukulpur area of Didarganj, completely halting vehicular movement. Demonstrators set tyres ablaze on the road as an expression of their anger, resulting in long queues of stranded vehicles extending for several kilometres on both sides of the corridor. Commuters and long-distance drivers faced substantial disruptions due to the prolonged road blockade. The protesting family members insisted on the immediate arrest of the culprits, stating that only strict legal action against the attackers would deliver justice.
Traffic Restored After SDPO Assurances
Upon receiving alerts regarding the highway blockade and escalating agitation, Fatuha Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Awdhesh Kumar arrived at the scene with police personnel. The officer engaged in discussions with the grieving family members to de-escalate the tense situation, assuring them that law enforcement teams were actively pursuing the perpetrators to ensure their swift apprehension. Following these administrative assurances, the protesters agreed to lift the blockade. The body was subsequently dispatched to Nalanda Medical College for a post-mortem examination, and normal traffic flow was successfully restored on NH-30.
Focus on Justice and Identifying Perpetrators
The brazen nature of the fatal shooting and the subsequent public demonstration have placed the local administration on alert. Investigating teams are currently examining all potential leads and gathering evidence to piece together the sequence of events. Authorities have stated that the exact motives and the specific roles of the accused will be determined as the probe progresses, while the bereaved family continues to await the formal arrest of those responsible for the attack.
