Resilience and unwavering dedication can conquer the most difficult circumstances, and 23-year-old Ankit Mishra from Ranchi has proven this true. Growing up in severe financial distress without a permanent home, helping his father run a tea stall after a sudden job loss, and enduring social exclusion by relatives, he turned every hardship into motivation. In the UPSC Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) 2025 examination, Ankit secured an All India Rank of 236, earning the prestigious rank of a Class-1 gazetted officer at an exceptionally young age.
Humble Beginnings and Early Academic Brilliance
Ankit Mishra spent his early years under severe financial constraints. His family lacked even a permanent brick house, and his father worked as a teacher in a private school with modest earnings that barely covered daily household expenses. Despite these impoverished circumstances, Ankit demonstrated remarkable academic talent from the beginning. He topped his district in the Class 10 board examinations. Transitioning to an English-medium school afterwards presented a significant hurdle due to language adaptation, but his sheer persistence carried him through. He went on to score top marks in Classes 11 and 12, proving that merit does not depend on privileged backgrounds.
A Painful Social Snub That Sparked Ambition
Turning points in life often stem from deeply painful experiences. For Ankit, that pivotal moment arrived when a relative deliberately chose not to invite him and his parents to a wedding because of their impoverished status and tea-selling background. Being looked down upon left a lasting impact on his mind. Right then, he resolved to dismantle such narrow social prejudices through extraordinary personal achievement. The hurt transformed into fierce determination, supplying the emotional drive he needed to prepare for the rigorous civil services examination.
Weathering the Pandemic Crisis with Grit
The year 2020 brought unprecedented misery worldwide, but for Ankit's household, it brought an existential crisis. His father lost his private teaching job, plunging the family into extreme financial distress. Rather than giving in to despair, Ankit stepped forward to shoulder the family responsibilities. He went house to house offering private tuitions to children, using his small earnings to stabilize daily needs. From his modest savings, he helped his father set up a tea stall and actively assisted in its operations. Balancing intense academic preparation with the physical demands of household sustenance required exceptional resolve.
Preparation in Delhi and Triumph on the Second Attempt
While his college peers indulged in leisure outings and picnics, Ankit maintained strict discipline and stayed focused on his textbooks. To sharpen his exam preparation, he moved to Delhi. Lacking the financial means to afford expensive coaching institutes, he relied heavily on second-hand notes and a limited set of essential books. In his very first attempt, he narrowly missed final selection by merely 7 marks. Undeterred by the close defeat, he addressed his shortcomings and overcame both physical and mental hurdles. His relentless pursuit culminated in securing AIR 236 in the 2025 CAPF exam, scripting a remarkable turnaround as a 23-year-old Class-1 officer.
