Ajay Devgn's comedy drama 'Dhamaal 4' hit theatres on July 10 and has been drawing a warm response from audiences. A day after its release, the film's opening day box office numbers are out, and they have already stirred up conversation in trade circles.
How much did it earn on day one
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, 'Dhamaal 4' kicked off its run in India with a double digit opening. The film ran across 10,669 shows nationwide and collected Rs 13.75 crore on its opening day. Its domestic gross collection touched Rs 16.50 crore. These are still early estimates, and the numbers could see minor revisions once official figures are released.
Leaves 'Alpha' behind
With this collection, 'Dhamaal 4' has pushed past the spy thriller 'Alpha'. The film starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh had managed a first day business of only Rs 9.25 crore in India, well below what Ajay Devgn's film managed on its opening day.
'Total Dhamaal' record still stands
Even with a double digit opening, 'Dhamaal 4' could not beat the opening day record set by its own predecessor, 'Total Dhamaal', which had a bigger start. That said, 'Dhamaal 4' has clearly outperformed the first two films of the franchise. The original 'Dhamaal', released in 2007, had opened at just Rs 2.38 crore on day one. Its sequel, 'Double Dhamaal', collected Rs 7.6 crore on its opening day. The third instalment, 'Total Dhamaal', had a massive opening of Rs 16.5 crore on day one and went on to do a total worldwide business of Rs 228.7 crore. That is the benchmark 'Dhamaal 4' still has to catch up to.
Theatre response and the competition
On Friday, 'Dhamaal 4' saw a decent turnout in cinemas, with the film recording an overall occupancy of 24 percent. The film is currently facing stiff competition at the box office, with big releases like Alia Bhatt's 'Alpha' and Akshay Kumar's 'Welcome To The Jungle' also running in theatres, giving audiences plenty of choices this week.
'Dhamaal 5' announced in the post credit scene
The makers surprised everyone by officially announcing 'Dhamaal 5' in the film's post credit scene. They confirmed that work on the fifth instalment has already begun, and this time the direction will be handled by Farhad Samji. The sudden announcement has left fans of the franchise excited about what comes next.
Cast and direction
Directed by Indra Kumar, 'Dhamaal 4' features Ajay Devgn alongside Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, Javed Jaffrey, Ravi Kishan, Upendra Limaye, Esha Gupta, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Anjali Anand in key roles. This is the fourth film in the 'Dhamaal' franchise, which has entertained audiences with 'Dhamaal' (2007), 'Double Dhamaal' (2011) and 'Total Dhamaal' (2019).
